Frances Webre Skiffington, a long-time UNO librarian and active LLA member, passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 87.

Frances was one of the first employees of LSUNO and was the last surviving "founder." Her father was the first LSUNO Facilities Services Superintendent, and she and her parents lived on campus while the university was being built on the site of a former naval air station. Frances was initially administrative staff in another area at the new university, but began working in the library which was located in a former Navy building, which was still standing. The library building wasn’t opened until 1964.

Frances completed her Library Science degree at L.S.U. She worked at the library for 42 years, primarily as Federal Documents Librarian, retiring in 2000 as Librarian Emerita.

During her career, she was an active member of LLA, especially GODORT. She was a recipient of the Margaret T. Lane Award in 1996.

Frances had a wonderful sense of humor and was a true treat to work with.
