Louisiana CASA Our mission is to build, support, and advocate for a statewide network of court-appointed volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children.

The Louisiana CASA Association is the statewide association of seventeen local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) programs in Louisiana. Our vision focuses on community supported solutions that build hope and promise for Louisiana's children. Our goal is that every child in Louisiana has the opportunity to thrive, and our belief is the best way to achieve that goal is through community programs and involvement of individual citizens. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of a child in court. Juvenile and family court judges implement the CASA program in their courtrooms and appoint volunteers. CASA has been endorsed by the American Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention of the U.S. Department of Justice. CASA volunteers offer children trust and advocacy during complex legal proceedings. They help explain to the child the events happening involving the case, reasons they are in court and the roles of the judge, lawyers and case workers. While remaining objective observers, CASA volunteers also encourage the child to express his or her own opinion and hopes about the case. As the state association of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) our mission is to build, support and advocate for a statewide network of Court-appointed volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children. We actively engage in projects designed to enhance CASA advocacy for abused and neglected children. Louisiana CASA provides program support through training and technical assistance; public policy advocacy; professional development; volunteer recruitment support and, awareness, education, and prevention efforts.

Understanding trauma is an important step toward breaking the cycle.

Many parents involved in the child welfare system have experienced trauma themselves, and those experiences can shape how they navigate relationships, parenting, and everyday challenges. Join Louisiana CASA on Thursday, October 29, from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM for our upcoming webinar, Breaking the Cycle: Trauma, ACEs, and Intergenerational Healing in Families.

Together, we'll explore how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma can impact parenting, emotional regulation, and family relationships, while discussing trauma-informed approaches that promote healing, strengthen connections, and help interrupt intergenerational cycles of abuse and neglect.

Learning together strengthens the work we do for children 💙 Last month, our Director of Member Services, Stephanie Breeden LMSW, traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to participate in the CASA Trainers Workgroup. Joining training leaders from across the country, Stephanie spent time learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating with other states committed to strengthening CASA training.

These connections extend beyond the workgroup, bringing fresh perspectives and resources back to Louisiana to support the staff and volunteers who advocate for children in foster care every day. We’re grateful for opportunities to learn alongside our CASA colleagues and continue growing together as a statewide network!

Participating States: California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Tennessee, and Texas.

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Capital Area CASA in Baton Rouge as part of our annual Quality Improvement site visits. We were grateful for the opportunity to meet with both program staff and board members and learn more about their work. 💙

During our visit, we discussed volunteer supervision and recruitment, program standards, organizational goals and future plans, and how Louisiana CASA can continue providing meaningful support to strengthen their work.

Serving children in East Baton Rouge Parish, this dedicated team is doing incredible work to provide children in foster care with strong, consistent advocacy. We appreciate Capital Area CASA’s commitment to children and families and the thoughtful conversations that help us learn, grow, and move forward together as a statewide network.

Children who grow up around domestic violence can believe it is normal and often repeat the cycle of violence in their own adult lives. The support of a CASA volunteer can help children build resilience to counter these reoccurring cycles.

This October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we join in raising awareness and sharing resources for families in need. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call 1-888-411-1333 or visit lcadv.org. Be part of the solution. Happy Birthday to our incredible Director of Member Services, Stephanie Breeden, LMSW 🎉 Today, we’re celebrating someone who brings an incredible amount of knowledge, heart, and dedication to Louisiana CASA and our statewide network!

After more than a decade of service at a local CASA program, Stephanie brought her experience and expertise to Louisiana CASA, where she continues to strengthen CASA programs across the state through training, professional development, and hands-on support. From advocate supervision and volunteer management to helping staff navigate the ins and outs of CASA work, Stephanie has become our go-to CASA guru, and we truly don’t know what we’d do without her!

Throughout her time with CASA, Stephanie has trained hundreds of staff members and volunteers and led dozens of trainings and professional development opportunities, always focused on giving our network the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to provide the strongest advocacy possible for children and families.

But beyond everything she knows about CASA, it’s the heart she brings to the work that makes her so special. Whether she’s leading a statewide training, answering a question from a local program, brainstorming solutions with our team, or sharing a little encouragement along the way, Stephanie is always ready to jump in and help.

We are so grateful for the knowledge, compassion, humor, and dedication she brings to our team and our network every day. 💙 Happy Birthday, Stephanie! Join us in celebrating her and wishing her a wonderful year ahead! 🎂
