We were proud to participate in Orleans County's first American Foundation for Su***de Prevention "Out of the Darkness Walk" in Albion on October 10.

Many LGBTQ+ people experience suicidal thoughts and behavior due to societal stigmas, homophobia and transphobia, and other challenges. GLOW OUT! is a committed member of the su***de prevention efforts in all four counties we serve and hope to support this event for many years to come.

If you are struggling, please reach out to crisis hotlines, including 988 and The Trevor Project , specifically dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth su***de prevention, at 1 (866) 488-7386.

For trans and nonbinary people, Trans Lifeline is another resource, with a crisis line at 877-565-8860.

Did you know GLOW OUT! Is a site for those looking to become a certified Family Peer Advocate or a Youth Peer Advocate?

This program, through Western NY Mental Health Advocates, allows those with personal experience a chance to earn money through a self-paced certification course online.

Those interested must live in Genesee, Orleans, or Wyoming County, and those interested in becoming a Youth Peer Advocate must be aged 18-30.

Conversations about sexual violence have erupted across college campuses and other social circles after high-profile cases have hit the news. In response, people across the country are showing their support for survivors - both those we know, and those we might not.

Le***an, gay, and bisexual people are statistically more likely to experience sexual violence and dating violence than their straight peers - especially young people. Transgender and nonbinary people are at an even higher risk for sexual or dating violence than their cisgender peers, according to available research.

For anyone who has been impacted by sexual violence, whether recently or long ago, GLOW OUT! works closely with RESTORE Sexual Assault Services, the designated support program for survivors and loved ones across all four GLOW counties (as well as Monroe). They provide free, 24-7 services for survivors of any gender, age, sexual orientation, or ability.

If you or someone you love is in need of support, reach RESTORE at 585-546-2777 or at restoresas.org.

Matthew Shepard
December 1, 1976 - October 12, 1998

28 years ago today, Matthew Shepard was beaten, tortured, and left to die near Laramie, WY.

Today, we still live in a world where LGBTQIA2S+ folx are harassed, discriminated against, brutalized and killed simply for who they are and/or who they love. With each senseless loss, the world is left a little less bright.

We must continue to fight for a better world, where everyone can freely, safely and joyfully live as their authentic selves. We must continue to stand with and defend our Trans, Non-binary, and Gender-expansive siblings of color.

We have always existed and will always exist. We deserve to be here and to thrive. We deserve equal rights and equitable treatment. We cannot and will not back down in the fight for liberation and justice.

None of us are free until all of us are free. Love must always trump hate.
