Be Kind

A simple act of kindness can brighten someone's day. Offer encouragement, show respect, and treat others with compassion. Small gestures matter, and kindness has a way of spreading from one person to the next. Choose kindness whenever you canโ€”it makes a difference. ๐ŸŒŸ

The Mental Health Advocates of WNY have two roles in active recruitment: the Youth Peer Advocate and the Family Peer Advocate. The process for credentialing are self-guided online courses that earn stipends upon completion of each tier.

The introductory training completion earns a stipend of $250.
Completion of advanced coursework in pursuit of provisional credential earns a stipend of $500.
Gaining employment in a certified peer role after earning the provisional credential earns a stipend of $1,500.

Youth Peer Advocates are those ages 18-30 and who have had experience with a mental health diagnosis. "YPAs" provide peer support on a chatline, facilitate events to enhance mental health protective factors, and participate in collaborative meetings with other Advocates and the MHA of WNY.

Family Peer Advocates are those over age 18 who, at any point, have been a caregiver or guardian of someone who has had an emotional or behavioral difficulty. "FPA"s support others with direct advocacy, facilitate guardian skill-building, link caregivers to other local sources of support, and participate in collaborative meetings with other Advocates and the MHA of WNY.

We are excited to bring this opportunity to those in the GOW region and the potential impact of the wisdom of those with lived experience in these areas who are here in our own communities.
