On June 6, 1944, the U.S. and other Allied forces launched the D-Day attack—the largest amphibious invasion in history—storming the beaches of Normandy and turning the tide of World War II.
We remember the thousands who gave their lives that day, 82 years later, and we honor all who served in World War II—on the front lines and on the home front—whose courage secured the freedoms we know today.

The countdown to America’s 250th Anniversary starts right here in Shreveport!
Join us Friday, May 29, in the Red River District as we launch a yearlong celebration of patriotism, pride, and community with RED, WHITE & BOOM, Shreveport’s official America 250 Kickoff Celebration!

Beginning at 5 PM in the Red River District, families from across our city are invited to come together for an unforgettable evening filled with live music, family fun, FREE treats for the first 500 kids, patriotic entertainment, and a dazzling red, white & blue LASER SHOW lighting up the night sky.

This is more than just a party; it’s the first big step in Shreveport’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Throughout the year, our city will honor our nation’s history, celebrate our local pride, and create lasting memories through events, storytelling, and community spirit.

Let’s come together to celebrate the land we love, the city we call home, and the American spirit that unites us all.
