From Joe Van Berkel - President of the Friends of the Baraboo River.

Today was another beautiful Wisconsin spring day. I started the day taking care of a long task list. The gardens are overgrown, the house is disarrayed, the lawn always needs mowing, there are things that need paint. But, I no longer work an eight hour day. So, about 2:30 I left to take a walk. Of course my route is on the Baraboo Riverwalk. It didn’t take long to remember what a treasure it is. Winding through the center of town it allows us to bird watch, observe deer, greet friends, exercise the dog, watch the boys play baseball, smell the spring flowers, get our steps in and be enchanted the entire time by the continuous flow of our Baraboo River. My one hour walk touched on all of these. Thank you City, thank you Kiwaniis and thank everyone else that played any part in the river improvements.

Be a part of the continued improvement of the Baraboo. The Friends of the Baraboo River have their annual meeting 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 20, at the Reedsburg Public Library. The menu will start with a presentation by Serge Koenig of the Sauk County Conservation Department highlighting their work on the river over the last 40 years. The Friends group will follow up with their annual meeting to discuss projects they could undertake in 2026. Come and learn about some of their effort and ways you can be involved.
