FRI. AUG. 28, 5:30 pm….Great NC floods of 1916 & 1940 compared to Helene, presented by travel & history author, Bob Griffin of Vale Crucis, NC and IRB, FL.

$15 full spaghetti dinner with all the fixings & desserts supports scholarships (incl the trades), food and aid to local students and families. 6:15-7pm history presentation.

🤓 SCARS on the MOUNTAIN documentary re 5 NC communities that slid down the mountain during Helene will be shown afterwards for those who wish to stay.

Wayne Underwood enlightened us July 24 on the history of ASU founder’s Dougherty house in Boone NC that was to be demolished to make room for university expansion. Through perseverance, grit and deep desire to preserve our Blue Ridge heritage, he navigated the numerous legal challenges in order to finally give it a new home at his fascinating, fun, Mystery Hill in Blowing Rock, NC. It’s free to visit now, and in the process of becoming a local history site of this blue ridge mountain area.

The Local History Dinner featured an exceptional presentation by Olivia Helen Phillips, and we are grateful for her contribution. We also appreciate the participation of all attendees who joined us for dinner and the local history lesson. The evening was a testament to the group's dedication and made for a memorable Friday evening. As the Foscoe Ruritan Club marks its 15th anniversary alongside the Country's 250th anniversary, we extend our sincere thanks to those who helped decorate for the Local History Dinner, creating a truly patriotic atmosphere.
