Foster Needed for Draco Through August/Early September

We were recently contacted by a community member seeking temporary placement for her dog, Draco, while she secures housing.

Draco is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, house-trained, knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and loves people. He is described as a very affectionate dog who enjoys being close to his humans.

Due to conflicts with smaller dogs in the home, Draco can no longer remain where he is currently staying. He does best around dogs of similar size and is not a good fit for a home with small dogs. According to his owner, he has never shown aggression toward people and is a friendly, social companion.

The guardian is willing to provide and pay for his food and routine supplies during the foster period. The need is temporary, with the goal of reuniting Draco with his owner once she moves into her own housing at the end of August or early September.

If you are interested in fostering Draco or would like additional information, please send us a message. Even if you cannot foster, sharing this post could help us find a safe place for him during this transition.

Draco is currently at Callaghans being boarded and she is also needing help to pay for more days until she can find temp placement. If you would like to contribute to those days, I believe you can call in payments.

Thank you for helping us keep families and their companion animals together whenever possible.

Right now, BDRM is closed for intake but we still have 3 animals in foster care and previous medical bills. So we are trying to catch up. But in the meantime, we are advocating, attending meetings, going to court hearings, trying to change the system, and helping folks where we can, as times are tough right now for many

We are all about community and partnerships💗
Without one another, we wouldn’t be able to make this all happen. We wanted to thank our friends .secret.garden.books & .perrito.lindo for all they have done for our small grassroots nonprofit.

They are amazing humans and we are so thankful to know them and for thinking of us always🩵🙏🏽

Please go check this wonderful family’s small businesses out.

Lea’s love for animals began in childhood in upstate New York and grew into a lifelong calling to protect the voiceless. That calling led her across the country, and eventually to San Antonio in 2022, where she and her husband, Mike, found themselves at the heart of a growing animal welfare crisis.

What began as volunteer advocacy quickly became a mission. Lea was part of a dedicated group of advocates who helped launch No Kill San Antonio and now serves as its Founder and Director, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every healthy and treatable animal in South Central Texas has a chance at life. Through NKSA and its rescue initiative, the Bandera Dogs Rescue Mission, Lea, Mike, and Krista helped rescue more than 100 dogs and even a donkey from a devastating hoarding situation, turning heartbreak into hope.

Today, Lea continues to fight for animals through rescue, advocacy, and systemic change, believing that every animal deserves not just to be saved, but to be seen, valued, and given the chance at a life filled with dignity and love.

Beyond rescue, we are committed to supporting our community through education, responsible guardianship of companion animals, and advocacy. What began as an urgent response to a large-scale hoarding case has evolved into a mission focused not only on saving lives, but on creating
lasting, systemic change in animal welfare.

Starting last year, we started a program called The NKSA Community Animal Support Program (CASP) is a community-based solution focused on prevention and early intervention. Through limited veterinary care, behavioral support, and medical assistance, CASP helps stabilize animals and support individuals facing hardship, including those who are unhoused. The program also provides humane end-of-life care for animals in crisis when necessary. By addressing challenges early, we work to reduce suffering and keep animals safely in their communities.

Two days ago, a woman reached out because she needed dog food for her three dogs. We were able to meet with her and provide three bags of food along with prevention.

She lost her husband three years ago, and life has looked a lot different since then. Despite the challenges, all three dogs are spayed/neutered and were adopted from San Antonio Animal Care Services.

Helping people keep their companion animals in their homes is at the heart of our mission, and we hope to continue growing this program so we can help more families in our community.

We wanted to give a Big Shout out to Nutramax Laboratories for sending us over a generous about of Cosequin® for our pups.
This joint health supplement for dogs, is primarily used to protect existing cartilage, reduce joint inflammation, and support mobility.

We are so grateful for the extended generosity🙏🏽

Darla, is looking for a family to call her own.
She was part of the 98 dogs/puppies & donkey we helped with for two years.

Lucky Spot took 17 into their care. Miss Darla was one of the 9 puppies that were completely infested with fleas and worms, some living in drawers. She is a warrior and has been waiting too long.

Please share and consider adopting!
