Connecting volunteer buglers with families and organizations across America, bringing those 24 notes of Taps to life—notes that speak of gratitude, service, and love of country. Only 24 notes — but whose clear, sad tones conjure up memories of loved ones lost, instill hope, and bring comfort and peace to the families and communities of those whom have served with honor. It’s the song that gives us

a lump in our throats, and brings tears to our eyes…

Sadly, the legacy of Taps’ honorable performance is in jeopardy. TAPS FOR VETERANS provides an opportunity for buglers or trumpet players to sound Taps for military veteran’s funerals and ceremonies. With the military unable to provide live buglers for every military funeral and ceremony, TAPS FOR VETERANS is assisting to help provide that much needed service. TAPS FOR VETERANS is an organization led by former military musicians and active and retired military veterans who acutely understand the importance of properly sounding Taps, our “National Song of Remembrance” as a way of expressing the nation’s gratitude for a veteran’s service.

❤️🇺🇸 Happy Father’s Day 🇺🇸❤️

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures whose quiet strength, steadfast love, and enduring example have shaped our lives.

Some taught us by words. Others taught us simply by the way they lived—with integrity, humility, sacrifice, and service.

We especially remember those fathers who wore our nation’s uniform, answering the call to serve both their families and their country. Their legacy lives on not only in the memories they leave behind, but in the values they passed to the generations that follow.

For many, Father’s Day is filled with joy and celebration. For others, it carries a touch of longing as we remember the fathers who are no longer with us. Though their voices may be silent, their lessons, their laughter, and their love remain.

To all the dads who have guided, protected, encouraged, and sacrificed—thank you.

May we cherish the moments, honor the memories, and never take for granted the men who helped shape who we are.

🎺💔 There are 24 notes… and then there are the 24 notes that stay with you forever.
It’s the song that gives us a lump in our throats and brings tears to our eyes. For many buglers, Taps—our National Song of Remembrance—is the most difficult music we will ever play.

Not because of the notes. But because of the moments.
Perhaps it was for a parent… a friend… a fallen brother or sister-in-arms… or a young veteran taken far too soon.

Those 24 notes have a way of carrying grief, gratitude, and love all at once.

🇺🇸🎺 What Should Civilians Do When They Hear Taps? 🎺🇺🇸

We received a wonderful question the other day:

“What is the proper protocol for civilians when Taps is sounded?”

The answer is simple.

Civilians should stop what they are doing, face the flag or the direction of the music, remove any head covering, and place their right hand over their heart until the final note has faded away.

For veterans and active-duty service members, a hand salute is also appropriate.

Those 24 notes are far more than music. They are our nation’s final expression of gratitude—a moment of remembrance, respect, and reflection.

So the next time you hear Taps, pause for just a moment. Stand quietly. Hand over heart.

And remember those who served.

For generations, the live sounding of Taps has been one of our nation’s most sacred traditions. Twenty-four notes. No speeches. No applause. Just one final farewell sounded from the heart.

Yet today, many veterans receive a recording instead of a live bugler.
That reality is why Taps for Veterans exists.

Every day, volunteers across America answer the call, giving their time and talent to ensure that veterans are honored with dignity, gratitude, and a living tribute worthy of their service. Because some traditions are too important to replace.

🇺🇸🎂 Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army! 🎂🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate 251 years of service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our nation.

On June 14, 1775, nearly a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of the Continental Army. With that decision, America’s first national military force was born, and a legacy of courage began that continues to this day.

From the frozen fields of Valley Forge to the beaches of Normandy, from Korea and Vietnam to the deserts of the Middle East, generations of Soldiers have answered the call with honor and determination.
June is Army Heritage Month, a time to reflect on the remarkable men and women who have worn the uniform and defended the freedoms we enjoy. For 251 years, Soldiers have stood ready—not because the task was easy, but because duty demanded it.
To all who have served and those who continue to serve: Thank you.

May we never forget the sacrifices made, the battles fought, and the values that have guided America’s oldest military service for more than two and a half centuries. 🎖️ 251 Years of Service to the Nation.�🇺🇸 Army Strong.

Post your sounding of To the Color!

A little impromptu challenge to our Taps for Veterans community….It’s been quite some time since I actually sounded the bugle call “To The Color”. I remember being a boot Marine at the SOM (School of Music) in 1986 and auditioning to be a duty bugler which if you passed got you out of barracks duty. I passed the audition and had many opportunities to sound “To The Color” along with a various cornucopia of other bugle calls as needed.

My performance is far from perfect, but I hope it motivates others to attempt to sound “To The Color” on this Flag Day and post online on our Taps For Veterans Community

As Flag Day approaches, here’s a little piece of military history that surprises many people…❓Did you know the bugle call is NOT called “To The Colors”?

The proper name is “To The Color” — singular. Not colors. Not “The Colors. To The Color.

For more than two centuries, military manuals have referred to this historic call as “To The Color” (or occasionally “To The Standard”), honoring a single flag—not the colors within it.

And here’s another fascinating fact…
🏅 The only Medal of Honor ever awarded to a musician for a musical act went to bugler William Carson, who sounded To The Color during the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863.
Even John Philip Sousa included the call in his 1886 Book of Instructions for the Field Trumpet and Drums.
Perhaps the greatest misconception of all?

🇺🇸 “To The Color” is not intended to march the colors in.
It is meant to be sounded while stationary, rendering honors to the flag itself.
These traditions matter because details matter. History matters. And honoring our nation’s flag deserves to be done correctly.
