Hoja Nueva Hoja Nueva’s mission is to confront deforestation and defaunation in Amazon rainforest and raise necessary awareness abroad.

Hoja Nueva is a dynamic U.S. 501c3 nonprofit and Peruvian association operating in the Amazon rainforest with a focus on research and education, applied conservation, and wildlife rehabilitation and rewilding. To accomplish our aims, we strategically acquire conservation lands and create corridors, build capacity within remote and indigenous communities through one health and alternative income op

portunities, implement rigorous scientific research, and rescue, rehabilitate and reintroduce threatened species to the wild. Our conservation center in the jungle serves as a local knowledge base led by novel, on-the-ground wildlife research. Our mission to protect the peoples, flora and fauna of the Las Piedras involves a multifaceted conservation approach involving research, education, permaculture, and sustainable community development. Our base is a home to our staff and local community members, as well as volunteers, interns, researchers, and tourists that share a collective mission to make rainforest conservation a collaborative success in Las Piedras – and all remote rainforest environments like it.

Behind every camera trap checked, every enrichment built, every muddy trail walked, every data sheet completed, every late night discussion, every early morning boat ride, and every laugh around the dinner table…

there are interns. 🌿

Our immersive conservation internship is not “voluntourism.”
It’s long days, tropical heat, research, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, and learning how conservation really works behind the scenes.

Over the years, interns have become an essential part of Hoja Nueva — contributing to wildlife research, rewilding efforts, camera trapping, environmental education, One Health initiatives, conservation logistics, and daily life at our field stations.

Many arrive as students.
Many leave as scientists, conservationists, veterinarians, advocates, lifelong friends… and family.

Thank you to every intern who has trusted us, worked alongside us, supported our mission, and left a piece of themselves in the jungle with us. ❤️‍🩹

Hoja Nueva busca incorporar a la brevedad a un/a Coordinador(a) de Proyectos de Investigación Ecológica para unirse a nuestro equipo en Las Piedras, Madre de Dios, Perú.

Buscamos una persona con experiencia en investigación de campo en ecosistemas tropicales, manejo de datos, liderazgo de equipos y disposición para vivir en nuestra Estación Biológica durante la temporada de campo.

La posición es a tiempo completo e incluye sueldo competitivo, planilla, beneficios, alojamiento y alimentación.

Now we’ve built our lives around protecting them.

Hoja Nueva is not one person — it’s a team.
A group of people who chose to do this work, every day, in one of the most challenging environments on Earth.

Together, we work across rewilding, wildlife rehabilitation, and research —
training the next generation through internships,
and applying conservation in real time alongside local communities through a One Health approach.

Everyone here plays a role in giving wildlife a second chance —
and in protecting the ecosystems they depend on.

And while this post highlights our full-time team, many others contribute to this mission along the way.

We’re proud to be a Peruvian-led organization, built by people who call this place home. 🌿

La mente de un depredador necesita estímulos. 🐆

En la naturaleza, los jaguares se guían por olores, rastros y señales que para nosotros pasan desapercibidas.

En rehabilitación intentamos recrear parte de ese mundo. 🌿

Los nuevos olores despiertan su curiosidad, fomentan la exploración y mantienen activos sus instintos naturales.

La rehabilitación no es solo cuidar — también es estimular mente y comportamiento.

A predator’s mind needs stimulation. 🐆

In the wild, jaguars navigate their world through scents, tracks, and signals that are invisible to us.
In rehabilitation, we try to recreate pieces of that environment. 🌿

New smells spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and help keep their natural instincts active.

Rehabilitation isn’t only about care — it’s also about stimulation.

Cada pequeño detalle ayuda a preparar a estos animales para una vida más cercana a lo salvaje.

Every detail helps prepare them for a life closer to the wild.

Wildlife trafficking isn’t just a supply problem — it’s a demand problem. Networks persist because people want wildlife — as pets, as meat, as status symbols, or as objects of curiosity. The more demand there is, the stronger these illegal industries become. 

Evidence shows that consumer behaviour campaigns — especially those that shift attitudes about wildlife products — can reduce demand, which in turn weakens trafficking incentives. Real conservation requires:
• education to reduce demand
• enforcement at borders and markets
• support for scientific rehabilitation
• community-based alternatives to illegal capture

We all play a role. Being aware and acting changes the balance.

En Hoja Nueva, estamos buscando un investigador Peruan@ especializado en biología, ecología, zoología, o un campo relacionado, para ser Coordinador de Investigación Ecológica en nuestro centro ubicado en la selva de Madre de Dios.

El puesto consiste en llevar a cabo estudios ecológicos con fines de conservación aplicada en especies amazónicas, tanto nuestra iniciativas establecidas como sus propios proyectos. Adicional a ello, consiste en enseñar, liderar, y supervisar diversos estudiantes y practicantes de distintas partes del mundo para ayudar a formar la siguiente generación de científicos y conservacionistas.

Requerimientos:
Iniciar en Febrero
Compromiso de 1 ano
Experiencia aplicable
Pasión para conservación, ciencia, y educación
