Find out how you can be on the super duper Rotary Auction Green Team at our open house on Thursday, May 28, 6-7pm at BARN. You'll meet the heads of the Recycle Team, Cardboard and Box Team, Green Desk and Lawn of Opportunity. Our goal is to send as little as possible to the landfill. In the process, we serve the community and make Rotary money in avoided costs.

The Green Team volunteers July 5 through sale day on July 11.

We had a great time at the Bainbridge Parks Spring Carnival today! We talked with tons of kids and adults about native and invasive plants and the importance of having more of the former and less of the latter. Here’s a pic of w**d warriors founding mother Jeannette Franks playing our plant identification game with a young visitor.

Who's in our watershed? Today Bainbridge Island Watershed Council headed out with our partners Aaron Jorgensen and Jo Verrelli with Wild Fish Conservancy to Mac's Dam Creek on the IslandWood campus to take environmental DNA (eDNA) samples. We are taking water samples that are passed through a filter and then read by a lab that can tell us about all kinds of things living in the watershed, including fish, amphibians, birds, mammals. eDNA is rapidly catching on as a great way to survey who is in the neighborhood in a non-invasive way. We're doing this work to understand the distribution of fish on this stream prior to the removal of fish passage barriers, so we can track whether barrier removal helps the fish!
