🚨COMMUNITY ALERT🚨

This afternoon/evening (Tuesday, June 2, 2026) you may notice an increase of emergency vehicles in the Scuffleton area as we will be conducting a controlled exercise on both land and water. This exercise is meant to strengthen our partnerships with our neighboring departments and resources that we may need in a real situation. This will include departments from inside and outside of Greene County.

We want everyone to know that everything is "OK" and there is no need to worry as this will only be a training exercise.

🚨New Signs Have Arrived🚨

The Greene County FireFighters Association agreed to spend some funds to have signs printed so that all departments can advertise for volunteers.

The first sign was publicly posted at Scuffleton Rural Fire Association and we are awaiting all departments to make arrangements to get their signs so they can be posted all around Greene County.

The QR code on each sign will take you directly to the website of Greene County under Emergency Services to where you can input your information to get over to the department of your choice to gain information on joining your local fire department.

You are not too young nor too old to volunteer at your local fire department where you can become a member to a great group of volunteers here to help their neighbors in a time of need.

Please consider making the commitment today!

Congratulations to our junior fireman, Macon Daugherty, for being accepted by the NC Office of State Fire Marshal into the High School Firefighter Challenge 2026. Notification was made by Kim Williams, Certification Support Specialist, with NC OSFM.

Macon will report to the Buncombe County Emergency Services Training Center/A-B Tech Woodfin Campus on June 22nd. This event will last through June 26th with a formal graduation to be held on the 26th at 10am.

Each student that was accepted must bring full firefighting PPE to include an air pack with spare cylinder. This will be a full week of vigorous training for each student.

Congratulations to Macon and each student that was accepted into this year's program. This will be a great program for them to learn more about becoming a fire fighter!

This afternoon at 15:52 hours we were dispatched to assist Ayden Fire - Rescue with a wildland fire off the Norris Store Road in Pitt County.

We are always happy to help our neighboring departments.

Agencies on scene:
Pitt County EMS
Ayden Fire - Rescue
Grifton Volunteer Fire Department Station 43
Winterville Community Fire Dept.
NC Forest Service
There could have been other departments that we did not see.

Utilizing Brush 45 we sprayed about 6,500 gallons of water to help extinguish this fire.

No buildings were damaged and everyone returned home safe!
