Tonight, the Ayden Rotary Club celebrated one of our favorite traditions, Annual Ladies Night. This special evening gives us the opportunity to recognize and thank the spouses, families, and supporters who make our service to the community possible while enjoying fellowship and friendship together.

President, Paula Loftin, was especially honored to present DeLyle with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition commemorating an extraordinary 50 years as a Rotarian. For five decades, DeLyle has embodied Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" through community leadership, servant-hearted dedication, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

The evening was filled with great food, fellowship, and entertainment provided by the St. James Jammers, whose music added to the fun and celebration of the night.

Congratulations, DeLyle, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your remarkable example of service and leadership. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Ladies Night such a memorable occasion as we continue the Rotary tradition of service, fellowship, and community.

Tonight the Ayden Rotary Club welcomed fellow Rotarian and Pitt County District Attorney Faris Dixon as our guest speaker.

He shared powerful insight into ongoing efforts to keep our communities safe, including the upcoming North Carolina S.A.F.E. Week of Action, taking place statewide June 1–7.

Led by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, this initiative encourages all North Carolinians to securely lock up their fi****ms to protect children and prevent preventable gun violence. A simple action can save a life and our club is proud to help spread the word.

Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

What are the benefits?

Connect with leaders in your community and around the world to:

1. Take action to make a difference in your school and community,

2. Discover new cultures and promote international understanding,

3. Become a leader in your school and community,

4. Have fun and make new friends from around the world.

What’s involved?

Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. The Ayden Rotary Club sponsors this group to help mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.

This week, the Ayden Rotary Club was honored to host this year’s recipient of the Delano Wilson Memorial Scholarship, Madison Cornwell.

Madison serves as Ayden-Grifton High School Interact Club President, leads by example in both her school and community, and excels academically; making her a truly deserving recipient and the perfect fit for this scholarship. Her dedication, leadership, and positive impact have already set her apart, and we know this is only the beginning of many great accomplishments to come.

We are incredibly proud of Madison and excited to see all she will achieve as she begins this next chapter at the University of North Carolina.

Today hits the heart in a tender way.

On this day in 2018, Chuck Cannon was named the Ayden Rotary Club Rotarian of the Year, an honor that fit him so well because service wasn’t something he talked about, it was something he lived.

Chuck passed away on October 4, 2022, but his presence is still woven into the spirit of our club and our community. We feel it in the way we serve, the way we show up for each other, and the way we try to lead with kindness, just like he did.

We miss him. We remember him. And we’re grateful for the legacy he left behind.
