At last week’s Club meeting, we had a very special presentation from Juan M., our 2025-2026 inbound exchange student from Spain. Juan shared some highlights from his year in Avon and his many adventures in the US. We wish Juan the best of luck as he returns to Spain next month!

We also got an overview of the Club’s finances from Hans Koomen, who will step down as Club Treasurer at the end of this month after three years of dutiful service. Thanks Hans!

On May 26, our Club was proud to present the first Rotary District 7120 event dedicated to advancing the mission of the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery (RAGAS).

The Digital Defense: Youth Online Safety & Awareness Community Event, hosted by Avon Central Schools, offered a level-headed and informative presentation focused on how parents and teens can work together to build a strong digital defense against online risks.

The event was moderated by Rotarian Jaime Lovullo and featured a panel of local experts and community resources providing practical, sensible strategies to help families navigate today’s digital landscape. We hope that this event will be the first of many community interventions aimed at empowering young people to recognize the signs of online manipulation and exploitation, take a step back, and know exactly who to turn to for help.

Thank you to our incredible panel for sharing their time and expertise:

-Melanie Blow, Vice President of the Rochester Regional Coalition Against Human Trafficking
-Dave DeMers, Rotary District 7120 End Human Trafficking eClub
-Christina Ecklund, Director of Academic Programs, Avon Central Schools
-Sergeant Robert Holt, Livingston County Sheriff's Office
Kerri Levine, Director of Pupil Services, Avon Central Schools
Officer Travis McFadden, Village of Avon, Police Department

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make our community a safer, more informed place for our youth.

May 19: A special meeting was held at Partyman Catering, where our club had the privilege of presenting our 2026 Building Award to owner Joe Yantachka in recognition of his outstanding investment in the Avon community.
Joe and his outstanding team welcomed us with a delicious meal that went far beyond our expectations. Following dinner, Joe shared the history of the company, offering insight into the growth and evolution of the business through the years. Members also enjoyed a tour of the impressive facility, gaining a greater appreciation for the scale of operations and the dedication behind the success of Partyman Catering.
The inscription on the award reads:
“In recognition of your investment in the Avon Community and for helping drive our continued growth and success, 2026.”
Those who know Joe understand that while the business has grown tremendously, he remains humble, generous, and deeply committed to serving others. As a fellow Rotarian and community-minded businessman, Joe consistently demonstrates the spirit of Service Above Self through his support of countless local efforts.
Our club is especially grateful for Joe’s continued generosity to Avon Rotary and the Avon Rotary Corn Festival, where his support has helped strengthen one of our community’s signature events year after year.
Congratulations to Joe Yantachka and Partyman Catering on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for all you do for Avon and beyond.
