Today we mourn the loss of a true literacy advocate - Dolly Parton. Since 1995, Parton’s Imagination Library has been dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting free books to children from birth to age five. Inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, Parton started the Imagination Library for the kids living in her home county. Today, the program spans five countries and gifts millions of free books each month to children around the world.

Happy National Book Lovers Day! We encourage you to celebrate by picking up a physical book to read - whether that’s at an independent bookstore like The Bookworm of Edwards or during a visit to one of the Eagle Valley Library District locations!

If you have some books that you’re ready to pass on, donate them to a child, give them to a friend or family member, or find a little library in town. Also, remember to support local authors!
