Two Boulder men who have been influential in the molding of snowsports for the past four decades in Colorado and throughout the world, Trent Bush and Chris Pappas, will be honored in October as part of the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame class of 2026.

The Colorado hall of fame will recognize the pair, along with four others, in a ceremony October 10 at the Vilar Performing Arts Center at Beaver Creek.

Tribute Tuesday • Charlie Meyers • Hall of Fame Class of 1993 • Sport Builder

For 27 years, Charlie was the leading ski journalist in the Rocky Mountain region. Since joining the Denver Post in 1966, he was constantly on the Colorado ski scene, recording all the news from each Colorado ski resort. His accounts of six Olympic Games and many other international events brought the sport and ski competition alive for Denver Post readers. He was often called the Dean of Ski Writers by ski journalists.

Charlie was the first person to win the Harold Hirsch Award, given to the nation's leading ski journalist, four times. He is the only two-time winner of the Lowell Thomas Award for outstanding contributions to Colorado skiing. He has also received many other citations for service to skiing and the ski industry.

Charlie was no stranger to controversy, unearthing both problems and solutions that have brought stability and growth to the sport. As one of the nation's top ski journalists, Charlie has written with an infectious enthusiasm that has heightened the passion many thousands of people feel for the sport of skiing today.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, the family of Trygve Berge will be hosting a public celebration of life to honor his “remarkable life” and contributions to the Summit County community.

Berge, co-founder of Breckenridge Ski Area and a Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame honoree, passed away on April 2. The former professional ski racer from Voss, Norway, founded the ski area in 1961, along with Sigurd Rockne and Bill Rounds.

To honor that legacy, Berge’s family will be welcoming the community to Breckenridge’s Riverwalk Center from 2-5 p.m. The celebration will feature personal reflections and stories about Berge’s life and lasting impression.

Olympic champion Alex Ferreira, Paralympic medalist Noah Elliott, and a group of Colorado snow-sports pioneers will be honored this fall at the 2026 Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame Celebration in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Ferreira, the Aspen-born halfpipe skier who completed his Olympic medal collection with gold at Milano Cortina 2026, has been named the recipient of the Mikaela Shiffrin Colorado Competitor of the Year Award.

This summer, we've been introducing the remarkable individuals and innovators who make up the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. From groundbreaking entrepreneurs to industry pioneers, these inductees have helped shape Colorado's snow sports legacy in extraordinary ways.

Join us as we celebrate their stories leading up to the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on October 10, 2026, at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek.

Chris Pappas has helped shape modern snowboarding through more than 45 years of innovation, leadership, and dedication to the sport. One of Colorado’s earliest snowboard pioneers, he embraced snowboarding in its infancy, hiking Berthoud and Loveland passes in the early 1980s in search of powder when riders were still prohibited from using ski lifts.

As a competitor, instructor, and ambassador, Chris helped expand opportunities for snowboarders by establishing instruction programs, competitions, and organized teams while advocating for acceptance at ski areas throughout Colorado and beyond. Chris was the first snowboard instructor at Jackson Hole, founding the program for future generations. His groundbreaking riding, including the first documented snowboard descent of Jackson Hole’s Corbet’s Couloir and the world’s first to land an inverted aerial in a halfpipe, helped redefine what was possible on a snowboard.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Chris mentored Olympic medalists J.J. Thomas and Red Gerard, as well as countless others? His greatest legacy may be the riders he has mentored. Through coaching and inspiration, Chris continues to shape the future of snowboarding.
