Have you ever looked closely at how an insect “feels” its surroundings? 🦗☀️

The green bush-cricket (or katydid) relies on its long, filamentous antennae - which can contain up to 30 individual segments - to navigate the world around it. Unlike grasshoppers, which have short, thickened antennae, tettigoniids like this one have long, filamentous antennae that often extend beyond their body length.

Antennae allow arthropods to gather a wide range of environmental information, including chemical, physical, and thermal cues. This important sensory system helps insects move around, find mates, and avoid predators.
