David Mais earned a Board Member of Excellence Award at the Rural Philanthropy Summit April 23 in Rolla. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks was one of the hosting organizations for the annual event.

There are currently over 500 board members serving 55 affiliates. A total of five board members received top recognition at the Summit this year.

Mais, assistant superintendent of Aurora Schools, was nominated for being a "steady, selfless leader" who consistently shows up for the school and community "in big and small ways." He is a member of the AACF board of directors, which serves Aurora, Marionville and Verona. Prior to this role, he served on the advisory board.

"With nearly two decades in the school system and deep involvement across community organizations, Mais brings experience and heart to his work," stated Joe Kammerer, senior director of affiliate engagement for CFO.

Since Mais was unable to attend the event in person, Kammerer, attended the May 14th meeting of the Aurora Area Community Foundation at the Aurora Police Station to present the award to Mais, who insisted the award was a "group award" for the wonderful board with which he serves.

John Paul Lee, president of the local AACF, commended Mais for his service to the area and echoed the sentiments of the nomination that stated "his commitment to service strengthens the entire region."

The grant cycle is open for Hometown Partners. The deadline to apply is February 26th. The grant is for $2,000.

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks offers competitive and discretionary grantmaking cycles throughout the year. View currently open grant opportunities. Scholarship applications are accepted beginning each year.
