Congratulations to Catherine Dunn, a fourth-year med student at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, on being named a 2026 Pisacano Scholar!

Catherine is one of just 10 students across the country to receive this scholarship for future family medicine leaders.

Outside of the classroom, she leads CU Street Medicine, a student-run organization that connects students to people experiencing homelessness. 🩺

Here's what this honor means to her: "I'm incredibly excited to join a community of family medicine physicians who share the same passion for reaching underserved communities and expanding access to care."

Say hello to our first scholarship recipients!

We are thrilled to introduce Jaqueline Valencia and Joey Smits, the very first recipients of the "Strengthening the Future of Family Physicians" scholarship.

Jaqueline, a medical student at Rocky Vista University, grew up in Glenwood Springs and is passionate about improving access to care for rural and Spanish-speaking communities across Colorado.

Joey, a medical student at the University of Colorado, grew up in Fort Morgan and hopes to provide care and mentorship to aspiring physicians in his community.

If you’re interested in learning point-of-care ultrasound skills, sign up for the PRIME POCUS workshop by September 4!

PRIME is a primary care-focused ultrasound learning network dedicated to expanding access to practical, evidence-based point-of-care ultrasound training for family medicine and primary care physicians. Join us for an engaging POCUS workshop designed specifically for primary care clinicians interested in building practical bedside ultrasound skills.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity for live scanning, small-group learning, and skills development tailored to clinicians across varying levels of ultrasound experience.

As it turns out, 3,000 future family doctors do fit in one convention center!

CAFP traveled to Kansas City for the 2027 FUTURE conference, where medical students from across the country gather to connect with residency programs, participate in hands-on clinical workshops, and listen to leaders in the specialty.

We can't help but feel inspired by the passion and curiosity the next generation of family physicians brings!

We were thrilled to have our own former CAFP President and Board Member, Dr. Rick Budensiek, a retired family physician from Greeley, show up with his wife Sue to celebrate the opening of the UNC College of Osteopathic Medicine and its inaugural White Coat Ceremony.

Dr. Budensiek's commitment to the future of family medicine doesn't stop at retirement and that means the world to us.

Congratulations to the next generation of Colorado physicians and thank you to the mentors who pave the way!

The CDC partnered with FASD United to develop a video series dedicated to individuals diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) and their loved ones.
