Heads up! The 2026 Tevis Education Ride will be taking place this weekend, June 13th. Riders will be on trail between the Chicken Hawk Staging area and Devil's Thumb from approximately 8am--5pm. There will be a Vet Check at the Deadwood pump, so it could get congested there for a bit.

If you plan to be on the Western States Trail this weekend, please be alert to the possibility of two-way traffic on trail, and extra vehicular traffic near the trail access points. It's going to be hot, so make sure you stay hydrated, and if you need help, don't be afraid to ask. Stay safe and have fun!

WSER fundraiser for the Washoe and Nisenan Tribes:

Honoring the Land and Indigenous Stewardship: The 2026 WSER Fundraiser.

For 2026, the Western States Endurance Run is embarking on a fundraising campaign to deeply support and honor the Washoe and Nisenan Tribes. Both the Washoe and Nisenan are the original stewards of the land on which our race, training runs, and trail work opportunities take place each year. Their enduring commitment to these spaces remains at the forefront of how the world understands the immense cultural, ecological, and spiritual meaning of the mountains and valleys we traverse.

This campaign is the continuation of a meaningful journey. Back in 2022, to celebrate the connection between the land, the runners, and the community, we were incredibly honored to feature a stunning landscape painting by artist and 2022 WSER finisher, Yatika Starr Fields (Osage, Muscogee, Cherokee). The painting was inspired by Washoe community recommendations of and marks along the Western States Trail. This profound connection was made possible through our collaboration with the Indigenous-led non-profit organization, Rising Hearts, whose guidance and Running on Native Lands initiative helped WSER connect with the Washoe and Nisenan communities, as well as Yatika himself.

We ask that the WSER community consider making a financial contribution to further vital Tribal initiatives for the Washoe and Nisenan peoples. To maximize the impact of your generosity, WSER will match every single donation dollar-for-dollar up to $3,000. Your support will directly elevate Indigenous-led initiatives, investing in the future generations who will continue Native land stewardship. Together, we can actively give back to the communities who have cared for these trails since time immemorial. Venmo .

For the 2027 WSER, there will be six races in the HOKA Golden Ticket series. At three of these races there will be four tickets awarded where the top two (2) female and top two (2) male finishers will automatically qualify for entry into the 2027 Western States. In the case that the first or second place participant is already in Western States (or decides to opt out), the automatic bid will slide to third place, fourth place, and subsequently down to fifth place as needed. At the other three races the top three (3) female and top three (3) male finishers will automatically qualify. We’ll roll down as far as seventh place if needed at these races.

Our trail stewards have been working hard to get the WS trail cleared of winter blowdown as many people are taking advantage of the lack of snow. With the exception of a new tree on Cal St and two small ones in Volcano Canyon, the WS trail is clear all the way up to Dusty Corners. We have upcoming group trail work days in April, May, and early June but they are all full! There is still space available for the Robinson Flat campout one week before the race (June 20&21). And then we have 6 weekends (12 work days) in the summer to complete the Granite Chief Wilderness reroute after 4 years of building it. Link to signups in the comments. Get out there and enjoy the trail.
