Last week, we joined Municipalidad de Yamaranguila 2026-2030 in restoring and reopening their municipal library. We painted a mural, organized and inventoried their books, provided library management training, and donated 30 children’s books to their collection.

Municipal libraries are limited in Honduras, and most face severe resource constraints, making it especially meaningful to help bring new life to this space where the whole community can enjoy books.

This partnership through our Literacy Alliances Program (PAL) is keeping the joy of reading alive in Yamaranguila! Thank you to the municipality for your trust, collaboration, and passion for literacy đź’›

La semana pasada, nos sumamos a los esfuerzos de la Municipalidad de Yamaranguila para rescatar y reabrir su biblioteca municipal. Pintamos un mural, organizamos e inventariamos sus libros, brindamos capacitaciĂłn sobre la administraciĂłn de bibliotecas y donamos 30 libros infantiles a su colecciĂłn.

En Honduras hay pocas bibliotecas municipales, y la mayorĂ­a enfrenta una gran escasez de recursos. Por eso, es especialmente significativo ayudar a dar nueva vida a este espacio donde toda la comunidad puede disfrutar de los libros.

¡Esta colaboración, a través de nuestro Programa de Alianzas de Lectura (PAL), mantiene viva la alegría de leer en Yamaranguila! Gracias a la Municipalidad por su confianza, colaboración y pasión por la lectura. 💛

What if the story ended differently?

Profe Evelyn put a strategy from our teacher training into practice, inviting her 5th graders to imagine alternative endings after a read-aloud. Through drawings and their own narratives, students built on the story and came up with some pretty wild plot twists!

We love seeing teachers bring these strategies to life and help students discover their own storytelling voices ❤

La profe Evelyn puso en práctica una estrategia de nuestra capacitación docente, invitando a sus estudiantes de quinto grado a imaginar finales alternativos después de una lectura en voz alta. A través de dibujos y sus propias narraciones, los estudiantes le dieron nuevos rumbos a la historia, ¡con giros de lo más inesperados!

Libraries come to life with families! At CEBG David Corea Sánchez, our parent workshop invited families to learn about their school’s library and celebrate students’ progress. A 1st grader proudly read aloud from her favorite book, showing how their new books are helping them grow as readers!
These workshops help families become part of the libraries we create, encouraging parents to read with their children and support their literacy development.

Una alumna de primer grado leyó con orgullo en voz alta su libro favorito, ¡mostrando cómo sus nuevos libros los ayudan a crecer como lectores!

Happy DAF Day! Today and every day, your DAF dollars can open a world of stories for kids in Honduras.

What is DAF Day?
October 8 is a day to raise awareness about donor-advised funds (DAFs) and encourage people to give through them to causes they love.

Why learn about DAFs?
A DAF is an account dedicated to charitable giving that can be invested for potential tax-free growth, helping you give more to your favorite causes over time.

Woohoo! School’s out! 🎉🇭🇳

Schools across Honduras are on break this week for Semana Morazánica, a holiday honoring Francisco Morazán and celebrating the country’s history.

We hope our students and teachers enjoy some well-deserved rest and family time! Next week, we’ll be back to turning pages and discovering new stories together.

Profe Marlin couldn’t wait to share her 1st graders’ progress at Alonso de Cáceres School: nearly every student is beginning to read independently!

Some had repeated 1st grade because they struggled to read. Now, they eagerly volunteer to read aloud, and those repeating the grade will move on to 2nd grade in November.

With a proud smile, Profe Marlin credited their new books for helping them reach this milestone. Discovering stories through illustrations and topics they loved sparked their joy in reading and helped them grow as readers. This is the power of books!

¡La profe Marlin no podía esperar para compartir los avances de sus estudiantes de primer grado en la Escuela Alonso de Cáceres: casi todos están comenzando a leer de manera independiente!

Algunos habían repetido primer grado porque les costaba leer. Ahora participan con entusiasmo en la lectura en voz alta, y quienes estaban repitiendo el grado pasarán a segundo en noviembre.

Con una sonrisa de orgullo, la profe Marlin destacó que sus nuevos libros han sido fundamentales para alcanzar este logro. Descubrir historias a través de las ilustraciones y temas que les apasionan despertó su alegría por la lectura y los ayudó a crecer como lectores. ¡Este es el poder de los libros!

And this is why access to books matters so much. 💛📚

During her free time, a preschool student in Profe Altagracia’s class chose a book, found a quiet spot, and began exploring it all on her own. She may not read the words yet, but through the illustrations, she is already discovering that books are a source of curiosity, learning, and joy.

That's why we make a special effort to reach preschools and kindergartens alongside the primary schools with which we work. The earlier children have access to books, the sooner they can begin building a lifelong love of reading!

Y por esto es tan importante tener acceso a los libros. 💛📚

Durante su tiempo libre, una estudiante de prebásica de la clase de la profe Altagracia eligió un libro, buscó un lugar tranquilo y comenzó a explorarlo por su cuenta. Aunque todavía no sabe leer las palabras, a través de las ilustraciones ya está descubriendo que los libros son una fuente de curiosidad, aprendizaje y alegría.

Por eso hacemos un esfuerzo especial por llegar a los jardines de niños junto con las escuelas primarias con las que trabajamos. Cuanto antes tengan acceso a los libros, más pronto podrán comenzar a cultivar un amor por la lectura que los acompañe toda la vida.

During their 15 minutes of reading, some of Profe Yilian’s 1st graders explore books independently, while others gather around her to enjoy a story with their friends. Giving children the freedom to participate in the way that feels right for them helps them grow comfortable with books and discover that reading can bring joy, both alone and in a group. It may seem like a small choice, but for young readers, it makes a HUGE difference.

Durante sus 15 minutos de lectura, algunos estudiantes de primer grado de la profe Yilian exploran libros de forma independiente, mientras que otros se reúnen a su alrededor para disfrutar de una historia con sus compañeros. Darles la libertad de participar de la manera que les resulte más cómoda los ayuda a familiarizarse con los libros y a descubrir que la lectura puede brindar alegría, tanto a solas como en grupo. Puede parecer una decisión pequeña, pero para los jóvenes lectores hace una ENORME diferencia.

Spots are first come, first served, and our three trips are filling up! You’ll help paint colorful murals, inventory books, and prepare for inauguration day.

And, check out our Copán trip, which combines the best of both worlds: half creating a library, and half tourism in the region filled with Mayan Heritage, great coffee and chocolate, Macaws in the wild, and so much more!

You don’t have to speak Spanish; the kids’ joy is a universal language. And the best part will surely be the hugs and smiles from children receiving their very first books. 💛📚
