City of Aubrey Announces Economic Development Agreement for New Walmart Supercenter

AUBREY, TEXAS — The City of Aubrey is pleased to announce a major economic development agreement with Walmart for the construction of a new Walmart-branded retail facility in the community. This project is expected to significantly expand local shopping opportunities, support continued economic growth, and create new jobs for residents.

The proposed development will feature a “Next Generation” Walmart Supercenter consisting of a minimum of 150,000 square feet, located on approximately 18 acres at the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 377 and Spring Hill Road. The project represents an estimated private investment of $40 million.

As part of the agreement, the City of Aubrey, in partnership with the Aubrey Municipal Development District (AMDD), will provide performance-based financial incentives to support the project. This includes a potential grant of up to $5.5 million funded through a portion of the city’s sales and use tax revenues generated by the Walmart store, along with an additional $2.5 million from the AMDD funded by a portion of its sales tax collections from the same development. Only a portion of the total sales tax generated will be committed to these incentives, ensuring that both the City and AMDD retain new revenue to support essential services and future growth.

“This project represents a significant milestone for Aubrey as we continue to attract high-quality development that meets the needs of our growing community,” said City Manager Charles Kreidler. “The addition of a Walmart Supercenter will provide convenient retail access for our residents while generating new revenue streams and employment opportunities.”

Groundbreaking for the project will be scheduled at a later date, and construction is expected to begin following the approval of necessary permits, with completion anticipated by December 2029.
The City of Aubrey remains committed to responsible growth and strategic partnerships that enhance quality of life, expand the local economy, and position the community for long-term success.
