Through JF&CS’s Supported Employment program, people with disabilities receive individualized support to find and succeed in jobs that are a good fit for their skills, interests and goals.

Good day, sunshine! ☀️

For Mary Lou, left, a beautiful day at the park is anything but ordinary; due to mobility limitations, she spends most of her time indoors. When her One Good Deed volunteer, Jodie, noticed that she was missing out on the simple joy of being outside, she decided to do something about it.

Jodie borrowed a portable wheelchair from the JF&CS offices, packed a delicious picnic, and took Mary Lou out for the day. At a beautiful park with a pond, they enjoyed a peaceful afternoon soaking up the sunshine and scenery.

Last week, we celebrated our amazing Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Services' Direct Support Professionals during DSP Week! 💙

Our leadership team stopped by our residential homes with appreciation baskets filled with a few of our DSPs’ favorite treats. Our DSPs are there for the big moments, the everyday routines, the unexpected challenges, and everything in between. They build trust, offer encouragement, lend a helping hand, and bring a sense of consistency and care to the lives of the people we serve.

We hope these baskets served as a reminder of something we want our DSPs to know all year long: the work you do matters, the relationships you build matter, and you are deeply appreciated.

Thank you for being there, day after day, and for the heart you bring to this work. 💙

ICYMI: We hosted our first IW-CON recently, just days before Dragon Con took over downtown Atlanta! Inspired by the creativity and community of the city’s iconic pop-culture festival, we brought that magic to IndependenceWORKS 🥳

Participants came dressed in cosplay and shared their favorite fandoms, with collections and displays featuring everything from Pokémon to Harry Potter and The Simpsons. Everyone enjoyed an inspiring panel discussion on creativity featuring Barbara V. Evers, fantasy author; Jared Isenberg, artist; and Ansley Stewart, musician.

A big shout-out, too, to our incredible Direct Support Professionals, who make experiences like IW-CON possible and show up every day to support the people we serve. 💙

And if IW-CON taught us anything, it’s that you never know what’s coming next at IndependenceWORKS. 👀 The IW Film Festival is just around the corner, so stay tuned!
