The UGA Indian Cultural Exchange (UGA ICE) was formed informally in 1992 by a mere five executive board members. ICE has grown in numbers, recognition, and student involvement on UGA’s campus since its conception, and it is an organization that is only continuing to grow through events such as UGA India Night, Diwali Dinner, and Holi and become the largest multicultural organization on campus.
The Indian Cultural Exchange (ICE) is the largest multicultural organization at the University of Georgia, and it is housed under the Student Affairs division of Multicultural Services and Programs (MSP), our umbrella organization that serves as a resource to allow us to connect with various organizations on campus via collaborations for events. ICE strives to unite the UGA student body via cultural, social, political, and philanthropic events. We aim to cater to all students and faculty who share an interest in exploring Indian culture, regardless of race. We also take pride in supporting our UGA community by partnering with nonprofit organizations such as Asha for Education. Our goal is to spread awareness of our Indian culture to the entire UGA community, so we visualize ourselves as a diverse organization that serves UGA as well as the Indian-American student population in multiple facets. We hope to provide students with a feeling of unity, mentorships, and lifelong friendships that cultivate through ICE. In the past years we received a SOAR (Student Organization Achievement and Recognition) award for ‘Outstanding Campus Event (Large)’ for UGA India Night, and a SOAR award for “Most Innovative Program” for our Mental Health Mondays. We are hoping to grow our organization more and achieve even greater things in our future!
