Proud to share the successful completion of the Italian Field Study Tour for the Advancing Georgia’s Leaders in Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine program. Fifty-one travelers — including class members, University representatives, board members and partners — explored Venice, Padua, Verona, Bologna, Florence, Tuscany, Cortona, and Rome over 12 days.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Engaged with researchers at the University of Padua, advancing our joint crop and soil science program with UGA CAES.
- Observed field production of purple artichokes, apples, hazelnuts, and wine grapes, and learned about marketing specialty regional products, including Parmigiano Reggiano, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and local wines.
- Visited agritourism sites and a world-class equestrian facility to study diversified rural enterprises and animal care.
- Met with representatives from the European Union and FAO to discuss policies, such as EUDR, and collaborative projects relevant to Georgia’s agriculture, forestry, and veterinary sectors.
This immersive experience strengthened our understanding of European markets, increased international collaborations, and created ideas to bring back to Georgia. Deep gratitude to our participants, hosts, and partners who made this experience possible — excited to translate these insights into impact!
