You may have seen them in the front row of Sanford Stadium. You may have noticed the red paint, the spiked shoulder pads, the black blazers or the instruments, but there is more to these students than what they wear on game day.

The front row of the student section is filled with some of the most recognizable faces at Georgia sporting events. From the Spike Squad to the Paint Line, Arch Society and the Redcoats, each group brings its own traditions and personality to the stands.

UGA will name the Performing Arts Center after former UGA President Charles Knapp and his wife, Lynne Knapp, in recognition of a significant gift from the Knapps to support the future of music and the performing arts at the university. The USG Board of Regents approved the naming request Oct. 7 during their meeting on UGA's campus.

“Over the past 30 years, this building has become a centerpiece of our campus, bringing the world’s greatest performing artists to Athens and fostering creativity and community at our university,” Charles Knapp said. “To help maintain this progress, Lynne and I have made the performing arts a focus of our giving to the university. It is our pleasure to provide this support.”
