Our friends at the North Carolina Department of Transportation have begun a project to widen 1.5 miles of Covered Bridge Road in Archer Lodge.

The $12.3 million project will widen the road to three lanes, including a turn lane, from west of Helena Lane to east of Buffalo Road. The DOT expects construction to wrap up in the summer of 2028.

Contract crews will begin by relocating primarily water lines along the left side of Covered Bridge Road as drivers travel eastbound. This early utility work is the first step in preparing the 1.5-mile section for widening.

For most of the project, Covered Bridge Road will remain open to two-way traffic. However, drivers should expect daily lane closures and brief traffic stoppages as crews work in and near the roadway.

Overnight and weekend lane closures are possible, and weekday closures may occur outside of the morning and afternoon commutes.

If you're traveling through the work zone:
• Slow down.
• Obey posted work-zone signs.
• Watch for construction crews and equipment.
• Allow extra time for possible delays.
Access to homes and businesses along Covered Bridge Road will remain open during construction.

For real-time traffic information, visit DriveNC.gov.

Johnston County residents now have access to virtual behavioral health urgent care through a partnership between Johnston County, Willow Health, Alliance Health and Osier Health.

The service is for Johnston County residents 18 and older who need immediate mental health support. No referral is required, and residents do not need health insurance. County funding makes the service available to Johnstonians without insurance. Same-day appointments are often available.

Willow Health provides urgent support for a range of behavioral health concerns, including anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Treatment may include individual therapy, medication management and group therapy. Intensive programs are also available for people who need ongoing support. The care team includes psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, care managers and certified peer support specialists, all focused on helping individuals feel safe, supported and stable and get on the path to recovery.

Services are provided entirely online through secure video sessions, allowing residents to receive help from home. The virtual clinic operates from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To get connected, visit willowbehavioralhealth.com/johnston-county or call 919-504-6520.

If you or a loved one is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

Monday night, we had the pleasure of welcoming Johnston County Little League, the Little League Softball World Series Champions, to our community meal at the Archer Lodge Community Center.

It was a great opportunity for our community to come together, recognize their incredible accomplishment, and celebrate these young athletes who have made their community proud!

A special thank-you to one of our community members who purchased a signed team jersey during an auction and donated it to the Archer Lodge Community Center. This jersey will be proudly displayed as a reminder of this amazing achievement and the pride this team has brought to the Archer Lodge community.

Congratulations, Johnston County Little League! 🥎💙🏆
