Apopka Woman's Club

Apopka Woman's Club Visitors and new members are welcome. Meetings are the third Tuesday, 7:00pm @ First United Methodist Church
201 S. Park Avenue, Apopka

The GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club was chartered in 1957 with 60 members, and was federated in the same year. In January 2013, we celebrated 56 years of service to our community. Opportunities are provided for the development of talents, abilities and skills for each individual who participates. The many opportunities afforded through club work provide a threshold from which each individual can develop

an overall awareness and deeper perspective of community, state, national and world events that affect our quality of life. Every member becomes keenly aware of the privileges and responsibilities of belonging to the world community. Club work is on a voluntary basis, with members participating in activities of personal interest. All members, however, participate in all fund-raising events. 2013 will be the 52nd year for the Art & Foliage Festival, our main fundraiser. In the past 56 years, the GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club has contributed tens of thousands of dollars and as many hours to the community and the General Federation and Florida Federation projects. Some of these projects are Habitat for Humanity, Canine Companions, Operation Smile and Special Olympics, just to name a few. In addition, the Club awards scholarships to Apopka High School seniors as well as special scholarships to adults who have the desire to continue their education in the pursuit of improving their life.

The Apopka Woman’s Club of Apopka has the annual Foliage festival in spring each year. The proceeds go to about 20 different charities. Tuesday, November 9th the Woman’s Club of Apopka gave their biggest charities their Christmas checks. Lori Reeves from Loaves and Fishes was presented one of two checks for Loaves and Fishes. Chief Michael McKinley with Jason Wiggins, Apopka Police Community Officer were presented with check for $1,000. Lori Reeves shared a story of one of the clients who she took from homeless to in a home through going extra mile with donations such as these from the public. Chief McKinley thanked the group for the support to Show With A Cop and shared how these funds help officer Wiggins meet his budget needs. Officer Wiggins shared how the need is great this year over 130 children. The officers shop with the children of the community which helps meets family needs as well as build relationships with the children and families. The officers are always eager to sign up! What they learned from Covid was that instead of doing 100 plus children in one night they are now dividing it up over a two week period with 10-12 children/officer a night instead of 100 invading Walmart so we saw one good out of Covid. Woman’s Club meets the third Tuesday each month and are here to serve the community. They are doing a service project of some sort each month. Donations can still be given to both charities.

Checks were presented by Apopka Woman’s Club president Charlotte White and treasurer Dena Morrow.

Woman’s Club would also like to THANK THE COMMUNITY. First, without your many donations to the Foliage Festival the proceeds would be less because donations keep the cost down. Thank you to everyone in the community who come out to shop, enjoy and see the Foliage Festival as that supports charities as we supported this Christmas. WE look forward to seeing everyone in April the 60th Annual Apopka Art and Foliage Festival! Apopka a Great Community.
