🍺 OKTOBERFEST IS COMING TOGETHER.

And we’re starting with the bratwurst. 🌭

Mad Mike’s is coming over from Warner Springs with his authentic b**r-barrel bratwurst. A veteran bringing b**r-barrel brats to a VFW Oktoberfest? Yeah, that sounds about right to us.

And we’ll be sourcing the rest of our supplies right here in town from Cali Produce. Because if we’re throwing an Anza-style Oktoberfest, we’d rather keep those dollars local whenever we can. ❤️

Mark Huston and the Workin’ Men will be cranking out the tunes. 🎶
Mark’s a VFW member himself, and he and the Workin’ Men know how to get a room moving. We’re pretty happy to have the whole crew joining us for this one.

And behind the bar for the evening — Allie. 🍸
She’s a mixologist, she’s getting ready to join our Auxiliary, and for one night we’re turning her loose behind the VFW bar.

Order accordingly. 😂

🏈 HEY ANZA — THE BOBCATS PLAY AT HOME FRIDAY!

Hamilton takes on Tri-City Christian this Friday night at 7 PM.

Coming off last week’s 41–0 win, the Bobcats are ready for another one — and Anza knows how to show up for its hometown team.

REMEMBER A TIME WHEN WE ALL JUST ….. HUNG OUT?

Back when the phone was attached to the wall.

There were no group texts asking Who’s going?
No Facebook event telling you what was happening.
No checking to see who was already there before deciding whether to go.

You just went.

Someone was dealing cards. Someone was shooting pool. The jukebox or radio played in the background. Somebody pulled up another chair.

You talked. You laughed. You stayed longer than you meant to.

Friday night didn’t need a theme or scheduled entertainment. And nobody asked what was being served before deciding whether to stop by.

You ate dinner at home. You grabbed something on the way. Then you went out because you wanted to see people.

Funny how we got away from something so simple.

Food is important to VFW Posts. It helps keep the doors open and brings the community together — and we’re not giving that up.

But the VFW was never meant to be just a place you went because somebody was cooking dinner.

It was a place you went because people were there.

This Friday, our hometown boys will be under the Friday-night lights — and the doors at the Post will be open too.

The kitchen won’t be cooking.

And that’s okay.

Bring your dinner. Grab your favorite takeout. Bring some cards. Shoot some pool. Have a drink. Pull up a chair.

Come before the game. Come after. Or just spend Friday night with us.

No dinner special. No big production.

Just an open door and a place to gather.

Remember when that was enough?

Maybe it still is.

🍺🇩🇪 OKTOBERFEST IS GETTING A LITTLE WURST.

Apparently we’ve decided to fully commit to this thing.

There will be questionable shirts.
There will be brats.
There will be b**r.
And now… we want to see what YOU show up wearing. 😂

🍺 THE WURST HOUR — 3–4 PM

Show up Oktoberfest-ish during the first hour — lederhosen, dirndl, Alpine hat, suspenders, ridiculous mustache… whatever you’ve got — and get:

$1 OFF YOUR FIRST DRINK.

Full costume? Fantastic.
One ridiculous hat? Counts.

And at 4 PM, The Wurst Hour ends…

because the BRATS arrive. 🌭

Then we roll right into the rest of the night:

🍻 Canteen opens — 3 PM
🌭 Bratwurst meals — 4 PM
🎶 Mark Huston & the Workin’ Men — 6 PM
💃 Dining hall cleared for dancing

We’re not asking Anza to become Munich.

We’re just asking you to get a little WURST with us. 😏

🇺🇸 YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED A FEW THINGS MOVING AROUND… 🇺🇸

And we’re nowhere near done.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve started making some changes inside VFW Post 1873 — moving things around, opening up the room, bringing in new tables, cleaning things up and figuring out how to make better use of the space we already have.

These pictures are a little peek at the progress so far.

There’s a whole lot more coming.

But first — WE ARE OPEN TODAY!

This week you can come see us:

MONDAY • THURSDAY • FRIDAY

Then beginning Saturday, September 5, we’ll close through Wednesday, September 9 for Labor Day weekend and give ourselves a few uninterrupted days to get some work done inside.

Painting. Cleaning. Repairs. Rearranging. Organizing. Probably moving something three times before deciding it looked better where it started. 😂

We’re not trying to make Post 1873 something it isn’t.

We’re taking care of it.

Making it a little more comfortable. A little more welcoming. Making better use of what we have — while keeping the history and character that belong here.

And when the doors reopen Thursday, September 10, we still won’t be finished.

This is just the beginning. 🇺🇸

Now THAT’S a hometown win.

A huge congratulations to the Hamilton High School football team on last night’s 41–0 victory over Victory Christian Academy!

There’s something pretty great about watching our local kids take the field, represent this little town, and give Anza something to cheer about.

We’re proud of you, Bobcats! 💙🤍

And since we’re celebrating around here anyway — VFW Post 1873 opens TODAY at 12:00 PM.

Come on in, grab a cold drink, shoot some pool, catch up with your neighbors, and raise a glass to the home team. 🍻🏈
