🥃 FATHER’S DAY — THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY 🇺🇸

Sunday, June 21st, we’re slowing things down and doing Father’s Day the old-fashioned way.

🚪 The Post opens at 8:00 AM and will be open until late, giving you plenty of time to stop in, relax, and enjoy Father’s Day with friends and family.

Instead of our usual Sunday breakfast, we’re celebrating Father’s Day with custom cocktails and fresh-made canteen food served throughout the afternoon.

⭐ Guest Bartender Allie will be behind the bar from 11 AM–3 PM serving up custom cocktails (sarcasm included at no extra charge).

🥃 Featuring two Father’s Day Old Fashioneds:
• Classic Bourbon Old Fashioned
• Whiskey Old Fashioned

🍔 Fresh-made canteen food available from Noon–3 PM:
• VFW Signature Chicken Bites
• Amish Onion Fritters
• Nachos
• Hot Dogs

⭐ Father’s Day also marks the debut of our new canteen food menu. We’re excited to launch it and hope you’ll be seeing a lot more of it this summer.

Whether you’re celebrating Dad, remembering Dad, or simply looking for a place to spend a Sunday afternoon, we’d love to see you.

🥞 SOLD OUT!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out this morning for Ed & Donnie’s homemade biscuits & sausage gravy breakfast.

We officially sold out by 9:30 AM — well before the end of breakfast service!

We appreciate the support, the patience, and everyone who made the trip out to spend their Sunday morning with us.

If you missed out this time, don’t worry — we’ll keep you posted on upcoming breakfasts, meals, and events at VFW Post 1873.

☀️ Coffee’s on. Gravy’s hot. Nobody has to do dishes.

Ed & Donnie are serving homemade biscuits & sausage gravy this morning from 8:30–10:30 AM for $12. (Canteen opens at 8 AM)

Includes eggs cooked to order, country-style potatoes, and enough coffee to improve most attitudes.

🇺🇸 The canteen will remain open after breakfast and stay open until late, so if breakfast turns into lunch, a cold drink, a game of pool, or an afternoon of solving the world’s problems… we won’t judge.

Tomorrow morning’s breakfast is dedicated to the memory of our friend Scott.

For years, Scott was one of those people who simply showed up when help was needed. Whether he was lending a hand in the kitchen, helping Ed with Sunday breakfast & making sure the potatoes were done right, he was part of the tradition that so many of us came to enjoy.

While he may no longer be with us, his memory remains a part of these Sunday mornings.

Join us for Ed’s Homemade Biscuits & Sausage Gravy, country potatoes, eggs cooked to order, coffee, and good company.

🇺🇸 FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY TOMORROW 🇺🇸

The community is invited to join us tomorrow, Saturday, at 11:00 AM near the flag poles on the west side of the lake for our annual Flag Retirement Ceremony.

More than 200 worn American flags will be retired with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Following the ceremony, VFW Post 1873 will be serving burgers, chips, and a drink for $10, with proceeds supporting veterans, community programs, and Post activities.

As we reflect on our nation’s history and the meaning of freedom, we also recognize Juneteenth and the continued journey toward liberty and opportunity for all Americans.

The canteen will remain open into the evening, so stop by, grab a burger, visit with friends, and spend some time with your community.

🇺🇸 Women Veterans Recognition Day – June 12

Tomorrow we recognize and honor the women who have served our nation in every branch of the United States Armed Forces.

Women have answered the call to serve throughout our nation’s history, often overcoming barriers, challenging expectations, and making lasting contributions both in and out of uniform. Their service, sacrifice, leadership, and dedication have helped shape the military we know today.

As a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, we are proud to recognize the women veterans in our community and across the country whose commitment to service continues long after their time in uniform.

To all women veterans: thank you for your service, your strength, and your continued impact on the communities you serve.

🚩 This Weekend at VFW Post 1873 🚩

Some traditions are worth keeping.

This Saturday, we invite our community to join us for this year’s Flag Retirement Ceremony as we respectfully retire more than 200 worn and unserviceable American flags. It’s a simple but meaningful reminder that respect for the flag doesn’t end when it’s no longer fit to fly.

A special thank you to Dan Sandoval for organizing and coordinating this year’s ceremony. Community events like these don’t happen on their own, and we’re grateful for the time and effort he has put into honoring our nation’s flag and bringing the community together.

Your refrigerator has had all week to come up with a dinner plan.

How’s that working out?

This Friday, VFW Post 1873 is serving up a little taste of the islands with homemade Hawaiian-style chicken, white rice, macaroni salad, a fresh green salad, and pineapple upside-down cake for dessert.

Everything is made fresh, because apparently we enjoy creating extra work for ourselves.

Dinner is $12 per plate and runs from 5–7 PM (or until sold out).

Skip the shopping. Skip the dishes. Skip explaining why cereal counts as dinner.

We’ll handle the cooking.
