The Penny's Purpose NFP In October 2019, April Soulak-Andrews founded The Penny's Purpose NFP to commemorate her mother, Penny Soulak, who passed away in July 2019.

In tribute to Penny's generous life, we strive to bring warmth and comfort to those in need. The Penny's Purpose was founded in October 2019 by April Soulak-Andrews, as a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Penny Soulak, who sadly passed away in July 2019 after a brief illness. Penny's life was marked by a deep commitment to giving, whether it was extending a helping hand to people or animals in

need. Even in times when resources were limited, Penny always found a way to make a positive impact. This unwavering spirit inspired our mission statement, which is encapsulated by the phrase, "Learn to give, even when blessed with less." During Penny's time in hospice care, a simple act of kindness touched her deeply. A family friend gifted her a warm and comforting blanket, which provided solace and comfort during her difficult journey. After Penny's passing, April found herself in need of warmth one day and reached for a blanket. It happened to be the same blanket that had once provided her mother with comfort, and now, it enveloped April and her husband, Bob, in a familiar embrace of warmth and solace. In that poignant moment, April felt a calling within her. She decided to channel her mother's love for blankets, combined with her innate generosity towards people and animals, into the creation of The Penny's Purpose.

The Sandlots of Salem is hosting the Sandlot Olympics on Saturday, August 1st, benefiting The Penny’s Purpose NFP, and we are ready for a fun-filled day!

Grab your friends, put together a team, and join us for games, raffles, 50/50, a Booze Wagon, the Chicken S--T Game, entertainment, and more!
Games begin at 12:00 noon.

Team spots are limited to 8 teams total, with 4 players per team. All players must be 21 years of age or older.

Team registration includes: Team t-shirts
Pizza buffet before the games
Prizes
Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place

Team registration is $100 per team. If paying through Square, the total is $105 to cover processing fees. Payment is due at the time of registration to secure your team’s spot.

Who We Are! The Penny's Purpose NFP was founded in October 2019 in loving memory of Penny Anne Soulak, whose kindness, generosity, and love for others continue to inspire everything we do.

Through our Annual Blanket Drive, Blanket Gifting Program, Service Hours Program, and Scholarships, we are proud to provide comfort, support, and opportunities to give back throughout our community.

Our mission comes from Penny’s way of life:
“Learn to give, even when blessed with less.”

Today, The Penny’s Purpose had the honor of dropping off blankets to A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center. These blankets will be shared with families staying there, bringing a little extra comfort, warmth, and love during a difficult time.

We were also honored to gift blankets for the pets who are staying with their families. Pets are family too, and we hope these blankets bring them comfort as well.

Shown here is Eddie, The Safe Place’s comfort dog. Eddie is also part of the Canines 4 Comfort family, and you can definitely see that this little guy brings so much joy to the families he meets. Eddie received his very own blanket from us today as well.

A special thank-you to Small Business Small business, BIG Hearts , who made many of these blankets at their blanket-making party a few weeks ago, along with our dear friend Donna Ryan and students from Lakes Community High School and Antioch Community High School.

Thank you to Christine and her staff for all they do for these families during such a difficult time in their lives. We are very proud to partner with you and look forward to working together in the future.

A special thank-you to our Board Member EJ Omara for helping drop off the blankets today.

Because of all of you, these families — and their pets — will feel a little extra comfort and love.

The Penny’s Purpose would like to give a special shoutout to the Lakes Region Historical Society and their Fix the Door Campaign.

Many of you know that TPP HQ is located in one of the buildings owned by the Lakes Region Historical Society, and we are so grateful for their continued support of our organization and the Antioch community.

Yesterday, Bob and April had the privilege of playing with the Antioch Aces in an 1850s-style baseball game in support of the Lakes Region Historical Society and this important campaign. It was a hot but fun-filled day full of laughs, community spirit, and a whole lot of memories.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing Glen “Grandpa” Fox, a 104-year-old Antioch resident and member of the original Antioch Aces. What an incredible reminder of Antioch’s history, community, and the people who make this town so special.

If you are able to support the Lakes Region Historical Society’s Fix the Door Campaign, it would be greatly appreciated. Every donation helps them continue preserving the history and buildings that mean so much to our town.

We were so touched to receive this beautiful thank you note from Zach, our ACHS recipient of The Penny Anne Soulak Memorial Scholarship.

It means so much to know that this scholarship, along with the plaque and baseball-themed blanket, made an impact and will help support his college journey.

Hearing how Penny’s faith and legacy continue to inspire others is exactly why this scholarship means so much to us.
