In October 2019, April Soulak-Andrews founded The Penny's Purpose NFP to commemorate her mother, Penny Soulak, who passed away in July 2019.

In tribute to Penny's generous life, we strive to bring warmth and comfort to those in need. The Penny's Purpose was founded in October 2019 by April Soulak-Andrews, as a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Penny Soulak, who sadly passed away in July 2019 after a brief illness. Penny's life was marked by a deep commitment to giving, whether it was extending a helping hand to people or animals in need. Even in times when resources were limited, Penny always found a way to make a positive impact. This unwavering spirit inspired our mission statement, which is encapsulated by the phrase, "Learn to give, even when blessed with less." During Penny's time in hospice care, a simple act of kindness touched her deeply. A family friend gifted her a warm and comforting blanket, which provided solace and comfort during her difficult journey. After Penny's passing, April found herself in need of warmth one day and reached for a blanket. It happened to be the same blanket that had once provided her mother with comfort, and now, it enveloped April and her husband, Bob, in a familiar embrace of warmth and solace. In that poignant moment, April felt a calling within her. She decided to channel her mother's love for blankets, combined with her innate generosity towards people and animals, into the creation of The Penny's Purpose.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE RED & BLACK!

Our 8th Annual Blanket Drive kicks off this Sunday, November 1st! Our donation boxes are heading to participating locations throughout Antioch, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Grayslake, Gurnee, and southeastern Wisconsin!

We're collecting new, homemade, and gently used blankets to benefit:

- A Safe Place
- Caring for Kids Clothing (C4K)
- ELCA of Kenosha
- Jamie's Fund
- PADS of Lake County
- The Sharing Center
- Local nursing homes and pet rescues

This year's blanket drive is being held in loving memory of:

Aunt Nancy Schacht, Carol "Mom" Lesnik, Heather York, Belle from Canines 4 Comfort, and Karen Tindall.

Each holds a special place in the hearts of those who loved them, and we're honored to remember them through this year's drive.

Every blanket donated helps bring warmth, comfort, and kindness to someone who needs it, one blanket at a time, through the extended hands of Penny Anne Soulak.

We are just a few days away from kicking off our 8th Annual Blanket Drive, running November 1st through December 15th, 2026!

Since 2019, our amazing community has helped us collect over 15,000 blankets, bringing warmth, comfort, and kindness to individuals and families who need it most.

This year, we are collecting new, homemade, and gently used blankets to benefit organizations throughout Lake County, Illinois, and Kenosha County, Wisconsin, including:

❤️ A Safe Place
❤️ Caring for Kids Clothing (C4K)
❤️ ELCA of Kenosha
❤️ Jamie’s Fund
❤️ PADS of Lake County
❤️ The Sharing Center

We will also be donating blankets to local nursing homes and pet rescues, with specific recipients to be determined.

Donation boxes will be available at participating businesses and organizations throughout Antioch, Grayslake, Gurnee, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Pleasant Prairie, and Salem.

Please see our tentative flyer for participating drop-off locations. An updated flyer with the finalized locations will be posted soon!

We kindly ask that all gently used blankets be freshly laundered and free of holes, tears, or stains.

What an absolutely beautiful day we had yesterday in downtown Antioch! The weather was perfect, and we loved seeing so many familiar faces, wonderful friends, and all those amazing costumes!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who stopped by The Penny’s Purpose to say hello, take some pictures at our little photo booth, and support our Nothing Bundt Cakes for a Cause fundraiser!

We had a few Bundtlets left over, so we decided to spread a little sweetness by donating them to the Village of Antioch Police Department , Antioch Fire Department and the sales staff at Raymond Chevrolet! We hope everyone enjoyed their treats!

We even had some special visitors stop by! Flo from the APD, along with her handler, Officer Phil, and his wife, Janet! We absolutely LOVE when we get to see Flo! It's always such a special treat!

What a wonderful time we had Friday night at Hillcrest Boo Bash! 🧡🖤

A HUGE thank you to the Hillcrest Boosters for having The Penny’s Purpose be part of such a fun community event!

We loved seeing so many amazing costumes, smiling faces, and familiar faces throughout the evening! The creativity was incredible, and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful night for some Halloween fun! 🍬🎃
