Trainer Fred Phiri recently shared photos from the harvest of the Sinda Village Demonstration Plot. More than a successful harvest, the images tell a story of neighbors working side by side for the good of their community.

The demonstration plot is a place where farmers learn proven agricultural practices, but it is also a place where cooperation and service are put into action. Villagers contribute their time and effort together, demonstrating a shared commitment to helping one another build more food-secure futures.

Trainer Joshua Lundumuna recently visited a farmer who is new to ZIAP training methods. With a smile that said it all, she shared that she has never harvested this much food since she began farming.

Her joy was contagious, and her success is a powerful reminder of what happens when farmers gain access to practical training and proven agricultural practices. Stories like this are why we do what we do.

We invite you to partner with us as we work alongside farmers to reduce hunger and strengthen livelihoods in rural Zambia.

Harvest in Zambia; Measuring Yield

To better understand and communicate impact, ZIAP is strengthening its approach to yield measurement. Lead trainers have begun purchasing field scales and are conducting and training others to obtain yield checks at demonstration plots and neighboring farms.

The process is simple, practical, and replicable:
• Two rows of maize, each measuring six meters, are selected
• All ears from these sections are harvested and husked
• The ears are weighed using a field scale
• The recorded weight is adjusted to account for the cob
• Final figures are converted into tonnes per hectare, and into bushels per acre for our partners in the Heartland

As harvest begins, Pastor Philemon Mwale shared this encouraging message:

“We thank God for the lessons from our brothers in the USA. Lives will change through this great method; the results are already visible.”

We are grateful for you, Pastor Philemon, and for all the leaders and community members whose encouragement, hard work, and enthusiasm are bringing this vision to life.

A recent field day brought together key community leaders, including the District Agricultural Officer, Provincial Agricultural Officer, Block Officer, Senior Agricultural Officer, and the Chief Spokesperson.

Pastors Tonga and Mwale shared that these leaders expressed genuine enthusiasm for the new farming methods. They were encouraged by what they saw and urged the team to continue expanding this teaching throughout the community.

Their support is a powerful reminder that this work is making a meaningful difference and gaining momentum.

Pastor Robert Tonga standing in a demonstration plot with stalks far above his head. Maize has been harvested and husked for roasting ears. We are grateful for all of the trainers who have invested in their communities. It is through hard work and sacrifice that pastor - leaders like Pastor Tonga demonstrate the love of Jesus to their communities.
