The North Andover Fire Department will be conducting a Fill the Boot Drive at the rotary to help raise funds to send the Deschenes family to Colorado, where Firefighter Jeff Deschense will be added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
For those who may not know, Firefighter Deschenes made the ultimate sacrifice and passed away in the line of duty one year ago. This trip will allow his family to honor his memory as his name is permanently recognized among our nation’s fallen firefighters.
If you are unable to stop by the rotary, donation boots will also be placed at the North Andover VFW and at both North Andover Fire Department stations.
Thank you for your continued support of the Deschenes family and for helping us honor Jeff’s legacy. ❤️🚒

HOW TO HATE THE JOB

- Think about yourself
- Talk about yourself
- Use “I” more so than “We”
- Constantly try to be better than others rather than becoming better than yourself
- Listen intently to what people outside your circle say about you
- Expect to be appreciated
- Be jealous and envious of others’ success that you didn’t work for
- Be sensitive and have your feelings hurt easily
- Never forgive an honest criticism
- Refuse to trust anybody but yourself
- Expect respect rather than earn it
- Expect a free handout
- Expect to be lucky
- Assume that people can read your mind
- Fight every battle
- Avoid every battle
- Demand agreement with your own opinions on everything
- Think down on those that do disagree with your opinions
- Get upset if people are not grateful to you for favors you have shown them
- Never let your brother/sister forget what you have done for them.
- Entertain petty shift squabbles
- Eat by yourself
- Go to bed early when the rest of the crew is up talking shop
- Listen to the Mutts
- Be a Mutt
- Place yourself before the Mission
- Place yourself before your Crew
- Blame Others for everything
- Own nothing

Might have missed a few but you get the idea. Avoid these pitfalls. We are all guilty of at least a few. I know that I sure am!!

Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury was among the many firefighters and emergency responders who responded to the May 15, 2026, fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont. The Office of State Fire Marshal extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the members of the Searsmont Fire Department during this difficult time. The investigation into the Robbins Lumber fire remains ongoing. | RSA-1 |

Many fire departments observe Firefighters Memorial Sunday in June, and Massachusetts law recognizes it on the second Sunday. Thank you to Governor Maura Healey for proclaiming today Firefighters Memorial Sunday 2026, honoring Boston Fire Department Firefighter Robert "BK" Kilduff, Jr, and all departed firefighters: "Their contributions to our collective safety and well-being should never be forgotten."
