Friends of the Amherst Town Library

Friends of the Amherst Town Library The Friends is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has been providing support services to the library since 1967. We have over 100 members.

The Friends of the Amherst Town Library are a group of volunteers who are interested in supporting, promoting and enhancing the excellence of this local library. We accept and organize books and then staff three annual used book sales (Holiday, 4th of July and September)

We donate money for computers, books, tapes, CD's and DVD's to enrich the collection

We dream up programs, trips, music concer

ts and speakers all of which are open to the public

We decorate for the winter holidays

We organize and arrange for displays, professional and student art exhibits, concerts and special guests

We subsidize museum passes which include passes to the Boston Museum of Science, The Museum of Fine Arts, The Currier Gallery in Manchester and most recently added the Peabody Essex Museum in Essex, MA

We also try to fill the gap when "it would be nice but…the money isn't in the budget," or "the staff is already stretched too thin." We depend completely on contributions which we raise primarily in two ways: annual memberships and the used book sales. Your contribution of $15 or more makes you a member of The Friends. Please join us!

The New2U Jewelry Sale run by the Friends of the Amherst Town Library has been postponed given the flooding and subsequent closing of the lower floor of the library at the end of last year. When it's open to the public again, we'll pick a date and move forward.

Signage at the transfer station incorrectly stated that it would be postponed until January. We requested the notice be taken down. Unfortunately, this didn't happen right away.

The donations received in November are being stored safely until we have a date and can hold the sale, and we look forward to doing that. Please spread the word! Thanks so much for your understanding.
