Each Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Our chapter is privileged to be part of the wreath laying ceremonies at all war memorials in Milford and to speak words that honor those who were first in service to our country, securing the liberties we cherish today.

Flags, honoring our veterans of the past, are up in Amherst and Milford thanks in part to the DAR and C.A.R!

Chapter US Flag Chair, Marsha with Lori once again place Betsy Ross flags at the graves of American Revolution patriots in Amherst. Chapter Registrar, Holly and her C.A.R. kids, Isabel & Leland participated in flag placement day in Milford.

This year our work in Amherst was made easier with updated maps and information from Girl Scout troop 60162. Visit their website to learn more about each of the 48 patriots buried across our 4 cemeteries https://girlscouts60162.wixsite.com/patriotsamherstnh

Memorial Day observance and schedule for Lyndeborough

Memorial Day activities in Lyndeborough will take place tomorrow, Sunday, May 24, beginning at 11:30 am. Veterans are invited to a lunch provided by the Lafayette Artillery on the second floor of Citizens’ Hall.

If weather allows, the parade will begin at 1 pm from Central School. Veterans are encouraged to join a short march into downtown. The parade will end at the Town Common on Route 31, across from the Village Store, followed by commemorative services. A cannon salute will take place just across the street.

If rain occurs, the lunch will still take place, but the parade will be canceled. Most of the ceremony will then be held indoors.

You can find more details about the Memorial Day observance at this page on the town website.

We’ll be marching in the parade and have a booth on the town green. Come join us or stop by to say hi!

Our Little Free Library installed in 2023 has a bench! Now you can grab a book and take a seat all in one location. The tree behind provides the perfect amount of shade on a hot sunny day.

Congratulations to our conservation committee chair, Kim Gowell, for successfully leading our chapter’s efforts to collect 1000lbs of plastic in 12 mos to be awarded the bench. Special thanks to Arene Berry, Amherst Recreation Director, for coordinating bench placement and cutting the ribbon!

Our chapter continues to collect plastic to help Souhegan Boys and Girls club earn their bench too.

Wonderful time at our state Spring Conference where we celebrated JOY with friends old and new, honored those who serve our nation and our community, recognized our own achievements, enjoyed presentations from our national representatives and remembered those members who are sadly no longer with us. Big thank you to all those who work behind the scenes to make this such a great event.

As the Flag Chair of our chapter I’m sharing this notice with you so as to provide you all with the opportunity to collectively follow our Flag protocols appropriately.

Thank you,
Marsha K. Caswell
