Here at Friends Together, a 501(c)3, we help people with cancer. Whether you are the patient or a loved one, we are here to support you.

We offer support groups, help with transportation & lodging, fun events, educational events, and one-on-one talking. We help people with cancer.

We would like to give a HUGE shout out to Alpena Football and all of the Wildcat supporters and fans who contributed to the success of their special cancer awareness game! Members of the team dropped by Friends Together yesterday to present our Executive Director, Melissa Burns with a donation of $870. This will go a long way in helping us provide gas cards to patients so that they may get to cancer treatment! It is great to see future leaders engaged in giving back to the community.

Thank you to the Oscoda American Legion Post 274! Members recently made a stop at Friends Together on their Saturday morning motorcycle ride to drop off a $2500 donation. This gift will make a major impact on the lives of cancer patients who need to travel for care, covering almost 25 nights of lodging.

It is often said that when you feel like you look good, you can feel good, too. That’s the idea behind the “Look Good, Feel Better” project of Friends Together Alpena, to support people impacted by cancer. With support of a $5,000 Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grant, Friends Together was able to purchase personal care products and host workshops by credentialed cosmetologists and beauticians who have specialized training to support individuals going through cancer treatment.

“The impact of the "Look Good, Feel Better" program is tremendous. It provides women who have been impacted by cancer an opportunity to learn how to deal with some of the physical side effects of treatment but more importantly provides a mental health boost,” says project organizer Malinda Amlotte. “It gives women the ability to control something in a situation where they have little control in anything else that is currently happening in their life due to this disease.”
