The Great Lakes Whale Preservation Society of NE Lower Michigan
Is a group of concerned citizens for the Endangered Great Lakes Whales. The GLWPSNELM collects migration data and records sighting of whales as they migrate throughout the Great Lakes to Ocean. You are welcomed and encouraged to share your sightings and pictures on this page.
Whales migrate from their winter habitat via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and pass Niagra Falls. They return to the summer breeding grounds in the deep water of Lake Superior.
The best place to view Whales is the shore of NorthEastern Lower Michigan because the straights of Mackinaw create a natural “choke point” or “funnel through which the Whales must pass.
The Native American’s called the Endangered Great Lakes Whales is, “kaałin.”
Global Climate Changes and the immoral Line 5 under the Straights of Mackinaw poses a threat to their Natural Habitat.
The rich limestone waters of Lake Huron provide a perfect habitat for baby whale calves, and Scuba Diving, Kayaking and Eco Tours are common in the Alpena, Cheboygan and Roger City, Michigan shoreline locations.
