Gratiot County Foster Grandma Julia works closely with 3 students who only speak Spanish. She translates to 2 kindergarten students, and one second grader. She said one of the students she works with was leaving and in Spanish told her “Goodbye and God Bless you”. It didn't take long for Grandma Julia to build a bond with this student!
Second grade teacher Mrs. Vance told FGP staff how valuable Grandma Julia is to their school, and how much the translating has helped the students and teachers.

NEMSCA Volunteer Programs recently honored the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Program volunteers with a drive-thru recognition. The volunteers were celebrated for their past year of service with a to-go lunch and a gift of thanks. Every year, our volunteers look forward to receiving a "years of service" pin, that indicates the number of years they have served their community in the FGP or SCP program. This year, one of our Foster Grandparent Volunteers celebrated 19 years of serving in a local school!
Thank you all for your commitment to service!
