Have any favorite photos from the trails this year? We’d love to include some in the Thunder Bay Trails Association’s next newsletter!

We’re looking for photos taken in 2026 at Norway Ridge, Chippewa Hills, Thompson’s Harbor, Rockport, or other trails around the Alpena area. Hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, or just enjoying the woods. Any season is welcome.

To share, either add them in a comment below or tap the Message button on our Page and send us your photos privately. Please include where they were taken, what you were doing, the names of anyone pictured who would like to be identified, and who took the photos so we can give credit.

Let us know that we have your permission to use them in the newsletter, and please make sure everyone pictured is comfortable with that too, including a parent or guardian for children.

We’ll review the submissions and select photos for the newsletter.

Thanks for helping us share a little of this year’s fun on our local trails!

🚴‍♀️🌲 The Thunder Bay Thriller is back August 29!

The Thunder Bay Thriller takes riders through some of Northeast Michigan’s best backroads, two-track and trails, all while benefiting the ROCK CF Foundation and its work supporting people with cystic fibrosis.

The Thunder Bay Thriller is part of the Michigan Gravel Race Series AND the I Love Gravel Race Series!

🚵 65-mile gravel grinder
🚵 100-mile Ultra — NEW for 2026!

The courses wind through the Northeast Michigan countryside, including Indian Reserve Road, Devil’s Lake, the Norway Ridge Pathway and the Alpena-Hillman Trail. Expect gravel, snowmobile two-track, single/two-track and plenty of beautiful northern Michigan scenery along the way.

Community Ride
Thursday 6/11
Norway Ridge - Alpena

5:30 pm

All are welcome and this is a No Drop Ride 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

We support folks in feeling comfortable on their bike, learning the singletracks, people share info on local trails, we connect about riding options in the area and always have a great time enjoying the outdoors on our bikes!

(We will share widely if the ride is cancelled for thunderstorms)

The weekly Thursday night ride is still on tonight at 5:30p, Norway Ridge in Alpena.
Many of the members who have been leading the rides will be attending the monthly TBTA meeting at 6pm however - so the attendance may be lower and the ride self led.
We hope you can get out and enjoy the trails!

Saturday, May 16th at Norway Ridge Pathway, AHS instructor, Andrew Wolfgang and his Environmental Club students hosted a nature walk. Andrew and his students helped identify birds, their calls, emerging fauna and flowers. We even aged a few of the large white pine trees. One tree was 175 years old! What an awesome, interesting and educational way to start out the day. Thank you Andrew and students for hosting!
