Established in 1969, the Friends of the Public Library is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization

Main Library Bookshop, operated by the Friends of the Public Library, located on the Lower Level of the Main Library. The Bookshop features a large selection of current releases, multi-media, and more book-related merchandise at 80% - 90% off of cover prices.

Vote yes for state and county library bonds! The bonds on the ballot are the only source of materials funding for our library system here in Albuquerque/Bernalillo County.

Bonds provide funding for both physical and digital materials: Books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, databases, CDs, DVDs, and more.

Vote YES on both library bond questions to support the acquisition of new materials for your library (and for public, tribal, school, and academic libraries across New Mexico.)

Thanks University Libraries for inviting us and the Public Library of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to campus to help promote Open Access Week! We had a great time giving away 20+ boxes of free books and talking about free access to information and resources.

UNM’s Open Educational Resource (OER) initiative seeks to provide faculty members with the support they need to adopt low and no-cost textbook and class material solutions for their courses. Contact [email protected] to learn more!

Thank you all so much for helping us raise $6,100 for the Public Library of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County at our sale yesterday! Our Bookshop raised an additional $1,100 on Saturday, too!

We hope you all found some new books, movies, or music you’ll love and we hope you know how much those purchases mean to our library system. Your generosity helps fund the Summer Reading Program (performers, activities, prizes, celebrations, marketing & more), professional development for library workers, and more.

Come back next month on November 14th for our first of two annual “like-new” sales for holiday shopping!

Our volunteers are well-read in many genres and we love to give recommendations. Tell us what you like to read and we’ll be happy to help you find something to try!

Our Bookshop is open Monday - Saturday from 10:30 AM to 2 PM. We stock recently published (2021-2026) books as well as classics, a wide variety of Southwestern fiction and nonfiction, kids books, YA, movies, TV series, CDs, and more. Come see us!

The Friends of the Library love to donate surplus materials! Recently, we were able to donate 40 boxes of books to the New Mexico Department of Corrections and plan to continue donating monthly. These books will reach incarcerated people across the whole state.

Research shows that increasing the literacy rates and strengthening the library and information access opportunities for detained and formerly detained individuals correlates to successful rehabilitation and reentry.

As Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall once wrote, “When the prison gates slam behind an inmate, he does not lose his human quality; his mind does not become closed to ideas; his intellect does not cease to feed on a free and open interchange of opinions; his yearning for self-respect does not end; nor is his quest for self-realization concluded.”
