This is devastating news for the shelter pets in Albuquerque

Dear supporters and pals of Friends of Lucky Paws: You are the best! You've done so much through the years to help Albuquerque's pets find homes through Lucky Paws...around 30,000: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, birds, and rabbits--young and old, hale and halting.
So I'm sad to tell you that Lucky Paws at Coronado Center will be closing soon. The Animal Welfare Dept. plans to open another Lucky Paws, date not known, but a larger space for more pets. In the meantime, they will have a large adoption van touring the City to place precious pets.
As we say goodbye, I'll be posting photos from the years that Save Lucky Paws/Friends of Lucky Paws taken at LP. This photo is of the kitty family that I fostered May-August 2010, which led to the founding of Save Lucky Paws in August 2010.

It's true.

No different than your children. Google is your friend. There is loads of information on dog training and what to do for specific issues. Just a short period of training will last their lifetime.

We'd like to give a shout-out to Roswell Animal Services. Last year and in previous years, it appeared that that shelter simply did intake with no regard to the type of outtake. There was a high kill rate and pleas to the City Administration for mercy and reform went unheard. But there has been a huge turn-around in culture and actions in 2022. Now the shelter informs the public on its capacity and promotes adoption, foster, or rescue of the animals. They do not shy from the words "begin euthanizing." After all, we agree it is the community who causes the problem of too many animals for the shelter to support. The community is also the solution. This transparency, while emotionally difficult to hear, gives those poor pets one last chance to be saved. Roswell also posts the strays that they bring in in the hope that the owner will be informed of where their pet is. They post pictures of the adoptable pets. This is ADVOCATING for the animals. Something we don't see much of in the public eye from our own Albuquerque shelter. Let's hope the current administration learns from Roswell.
