Our highly anticipated Haunted Farm returns as a two day event! We’ll be open to the community on both Saturday, October 24th and Friday, October 30th from 5-9pm. The Haunted Farm is run by our Youth Ecojustice Associates, who spent weeks planning, decorating, and preparing for their roles as spooky hosts.

Last year, over 200 community members came out to get some scares across the farm , drink freshly pressed apple c***r, make popcorn over a fire, and spend time with each other on a beautiful autumn night. This year we’ll be adding a bake sale, with the proceeds going towards supplies and activities for our Youth Program.

There’s a $5-$20 suggested donation upon entry but as always, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Hope to see you there!

Off to a great start with the 1st grade c***r pressings with the first two out of thirty one coming this week! Big thanks to our friends at the Shaker Heritage Society who let us collect a bunch of heirloom apples from their orchard to use in the program.

Come to the Radix paw paw tasting party!

Paw paw is a large fruit native to North America with a flavor similar to that of a mango-bananna-vanilla mash up. One of only a few genuinely native "fruits", it was an important food for indigenous people. Possessing a very thin skin and short shelf-life, it defies commodification and must be enjoyed in a particular time and space.

We have an abundance of paw paw fruit grown at Radix this year - come try a slice! This is a free event, all are welcome, please spread the word.

We also have paw paw seedling trees for sale as well in 13" pots for $15 each.

Big thanks to Son of Egg for letting us pick their apples! Ecojustice Associate youth collected the fruit yesterday that will be used for our upcoming c***r pressing program with City School District of Albany first graders in October!

The Radix Ecojustice Associates (also known as our Youth Employees) support day-to-day farm responsibilities and community health projects. Beyond agricultural work this program spans cooking, professional development, and career exposure. Radix aims to inspire individuals to be more engaged with the natural world and their local community.

Applications are open to Albany-area youth of high school age who have an interest in sustainability and don’t mind getting their hands dirty.

Come by this Saturday to meet our new exotic bird friends (guinea hens!,) see our herb garden progress, and work on some art projects together.

The farm will be open from 10-2pm. If you missed it last month or are eager to get back at it, we'll collect plant material to create cyanotypes with at 11 a.m. Then, we’ll have a guided farm tour at 1 where we’ll taste some produce right from the fields.

Summer is a busy time here at the farm, especially for our youth employees.

Once again we’ve teamed up with Albany’s Summer Youth Employee Program and have 16 teenagers with us this summer helping us maintain the farm, learning about community driven work, and making food and art. Come by our open house this Saturday and see what they’ve accomplished so far!
