Radix is looking to bring on a Compost Collector. They will be responsible for picking up compostable material from our residential clients around Albany via electric tricycle or electric mini-truck.

Come by this Saturday, May 9th, for our monthly Open House!

We’ll have a mix of vegetable starts, flowers, berry shrubs, and tree saplings ahead of Mother’s Day so come pick up a plant for a loved one in your life and get a look at the Farm as it gets filled up with this season’s produce.

Guided tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Arbor Week recap!

Radix and ITECA teamed up to plant 17 trees throughout Albany over Arbor Week! We planted trees at 3 different public schools in the City School District of Albany: Giffen Memorial Elementary School, Albany International Academy, and Arbor Hill Elementary School (with a ton of help from the students!). In addition, we put apple trees in the ground at the Essie Snead Memorial Orchard with the help of NYS assemblymember Gabriella Romero and Albany Common Council member Owusu Anane.

With declines in tree canopy coverage in all of Albany's disadvantaged communities over the past 5 years, it is critical that every resource be used to promote cooling and air quality in our neighborhoods!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to celebrate South End Earth Day with us! We had a great turnout with over twice as many volunteers as expected, who cleaned up a dozen neighborhood gardens and community spaces to prepare them for the growing season.

Afterwards, we gathered outside Radix for our community resource fair and block party. Approximately 300 people came together for this highly anticipated event, which included hot food, free health screenings, music provided by , important resources, and so much more. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to share with all of you, and we are so grateful for all the support of our volunteers, neighbors, and partner organizations. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Radix plans to host several events this summer, including our upcoming Open House and Mother’s Day Plant Sale on Saturday, May 9th from 10am-2pm. Swipe to the end for details — we hope to see you there🌸🌱

Happy Arbor Week, tree supporters!

Radix and SUNY Albany's Institute for Transformational and Ecosystem-Based Climate Adaptation (ITECA) need your help planting trees at Albany public schools and community spaces. We have a lot of trees to plant this week including oaks, apples, paw paws, black tupelos, and serviceberries!

Volunteers are needed for tree planting on the following dates:

South End Earth Day is this Saturday, see you there!

Each Spring, volunteers come together to care for the community gardens in the South End and prepare them for the growing season. Over the last 15 years it’s developed into so much more, with free food and drinks, local entertainment, and an array of community resources.

Volunteers meet at Radix at 10 a.m. (walk-ons are more than welcome,) form groups for each garden site, and team up with a Crew leader. We’ll provide all the tools and supplies needed to freshen up garden beds and remove debris that has accumulated over the winter.

At 1 p.m. the Block Party starts, with food and refreshments, music and dancing going until 4 p.m. Countless community-based organizations will be there, eager to share what they have to offer including free health screenings, clean energy job resources, soil testing, and more.

Drop by the Radix Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th for our annual maple boil down. We'll be sampling delicious homemade maple syrup on pancakes made with our chickens’ eggs. Gluten free and vegan options will be available.

We’ll also have seeds to share for those getting started in their gardens; bring some of your own to swap with your neighbors and share your successes!
