Fez has a different idea of “old.”

In 859 AD, Fatima al-Fihri used her inheritance to found al-Qarawiyyin.

That's more than two centuries before Oxford's earliest teaching.

A Muslim woman in Fez had already paid for an
institution that's still operating over a thousand years later.

When you walk through Fez, look at more than the tile and the doors.

Yes, the medina photographs beautifully.

But who built these places? Who paid for them?

A whole intellectual life was already happening here while the timelines most of us were taught start somewhere else.

That moment during a BBG departure when you realize there’s so much more to life. 🌍✈🏾

Sis, if this wasn’t the perfect way to close out our summer, I don’t know what is!

Our annual Hampton yacht event was a TIME!

Ch*****ne glasses in hand, laughter filling the air, good food on the table, and nothing but beautiful Sistas all around us. Karaoke bonded us more than ever even though we were off pitch.

The weather, the views, the vibes, the company. Everything was giving exactly what it needed to give.

And can we talk about how good it feels to just be outside enjoying life with your Sistas? No agenda, no rushing to the next thing. Just us, looking good, eating good, sipping ch*****ne, and making memories somewhere between the water and the sunset.

Because sis, this is what we mean when we say we’re going to enjoy the lives we’re working so hard to build.

To every Sista who joined us for our Hamptons Yacht Layover, thank you for closing out the summer with us. We couldn’t have asked for a better crew!

Summer 2026, you were good to us, girl. And this was one beautiful way to say goodbye. Summer 2027, I’m ready to run it back!

I've been doing this long enough to know the fear sounds a lot bigger before the first dinner than it does after.

A sister will tell me she's nervous because she doesn't know anybody going. Then dinner starts.

Names first, then cities. Somebody asks how everybody found BBG.

A phone charger gets passed down the table.

Somebody needs help with a picture.

By the next day, nobody's asking “who do I know?”

They're asking “what time are we meeting downstairs?”

I can't promise who you'll end up close with, and I would never sell you that.

What I can tell you is what six years of departures have taught me: it happens in really ordinary ways, when sisters keep sharing meals, rides, getting-ready rooms and time.

So if “I won't know anybody” is what's keeping you from Africa, don't let it make the decision for you.

Vacation Me has very clear housing policies.

I want the whole closet. I want the bathroom counter covered in products I absolutely did not
need to pack.

I want to come back from dinner, take off my earrings, turn the thermostat to exactly what I like and put the room-service tray wherever it fits.

Could I share? Of course. Sometimes I do. But sometimes Black Girl Luxuriating is closing the
door on a room that is entirely mine and hearing absolutely nobody ask which side of the bed I
want.

It's time for Africa to come off your Pinterest board.

Because every destination has a story they don't put in the travel guides:

Seychelles: Moutya survived eighty-three years of colonial drum bans, the resistance was literally in the rhythm.

Zanzibar: Those clove farms? Built on enslaved labor. The spice trade has a whole different smell when you know that.

South Africa: One of the richest plant kingdoms on the entire planet. Over 20,000 plant species, and 70% of them don't exist anywhere else.

Zimbabwe: The Great Zimbabwe ruins were so architecturally advanced that colonial authorities refused to believe Africans built them.

Ghana: Named itself after the Ghana Empire, one that thrived from 300 to 1100 AD, because the past needed to shape the future.

Egypt: 95% of the population lives on 5% of the land. Everything and I mean everything has always revolved around the Nile.

Six countries. Six completely different realities.

This is why I'm taking my Sistas to Africa, not for the 'gram, but for the real story.

Seychelles carries a music tradition that survived enslavement, regulation and eighty-three years on the law books before Moutya's restriction was finally repealed.

Zanzibar's spice story cannot be separated from the enslaved labor that built its clove economy. South Africa and Zimbabwe hold two completely different kinds of evidence in the landscape: one botanical, one
architectural and political.

Ghana's name was chosen as a Pan-African declaration.

Egypt still concentrates nearly an entire nation along one river.

Same continent. Different histories. Different rhythms. Different reasons one of these places
might keep pulling at you.
