Today, State President Tiger Folks had the privilege of attending the Gulf Coast Brotherhood Ride event honoring St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Grant Candies, whose End of Watch was March 23, 2025.

The Gulf Coast Brotherhood Ride honors law enforcement officers and firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

Each year, these dedicated men and women climb on their bicycles and ride throughout the Gulf Coast, stopping at agencies to remember fallen first responders and stand beside their families and fellow officers. Among them is Louisiana FOP State Guard Craig Russell, who participates in the ride and helps lead this meaningful effort.

This year’s journey began in Mobile, Alabama, traveled through Mississippi, and continued into Louisiana, where it will end in Lafayette. Over five days, these riders will cover 450 miles with one purpose: to keep the memory of our fallen brothers and sisters alive.

The Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police is proud to be a sponsor for this mission. To every rider, volunteer, and supporter, thank you for your dedication and compassion. Every mile reminds these families that they are not alone and that their loved ones will never be forgotten.

We all remember where we were that day.

On September 11, 2001, our nation witnessed unimaginable evil—and extraordinary courage. As thousands fled the World Trade Center, brave men and women of the FDNY and NYPD ran toward the danger. They climbed smoke-filled stairwells, guided others to safety, and continued their mission even as the buildings collapsed around them.

Many made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to save lives. Their courage, selflessness, and devotion to duty will always be remembered.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police remembers those who lost their lives, honors the heroes who responded, and stands with the families who continue to carry the pain of that day.

May we always remember their sacrifice.

For those that are not familiar with C.O.P.S.

C.O.P.S. stands for Concerns of Police Survivors. It is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1984 whose mission is to “rebuild the shattered lives” of family members and co-workers affected by the line-of-duty death of a law enforcement officer.

When an officer dies in the line of duty, C.O.P.S. supports not only the immediate family but also children, parents, siblings, significant others, extended family members and fellow officers/co-workers. It currently serves more than 90,000 survivors through 53 chapters nationwide, and there is no membership fee for survivors.

C.O.P.S. conducts the National Police Survivors’ Conference each May during National Police Week in Washington D.C., providing support and programming for survivors.

One important point is that C.O.P.S. isn’t simply a memorial organization. Its primary purpose is the long-term care, peer support and recovery of the families left behind after an officer’s death

The countdown to Seven in September is on! đź’™
Starting September 20th, C.O.P.S. will begin drawing winners for our Seven in September fundraiser, featuring eight exciting prizes, including a grand prize trip to SIG SAUER headquarters.

Your support helps benefit the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) and the families and survivors we serve. Enter Here: https://qrco.de/bgxN1o
