We are hosting a cleanup along the shores of the Abita River on September 12. We will be starting at the Abita Trailhead unless we find a better place to access the river. Starts at 9 AM! Hope you’ll join us!

Keep Abita Beautiful has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. We are using this grant to help us be more efficient and safe when we do water-based cleanups along the Abita River and in the drainage canals and ditches that feed into the river. We are purchasing some Waterway PRO pickup tongs and a few sets of chest waders for some of our experienced “water litter-Gitters”! In addition, we are getting additional litter grabbers including short purple ones for younger children! We are fortunate to work with Southern Magnolia Montessori School, home school, church, and Girl and Boy Scout troops and now we’ll have the right tools for them.

We are adding more net recycling bags from Osprey Initiative so we can eliminate using plastic bags to collect recycling.

We are replacing the lids on the x-frame recycling bins and getting some cleaning equipment because our trash and recycling cans frequently smell like old beer.

Lastly, we are getting some additional A-frame sign boards so we can let y’all know what we’re doing and how you can help!

✨We have rescheduled our Root Beer Float Fundraiser with Keep Abita Beautiful for Tuesday, June 30th, from 1pm-3pm. We can't wait to see you then!

There is now a dry goods pantry and a fresh produce, plants, and seeds pantry in the Community Garden. There are also a couple of places for people to put announcements on the side of one of the pantries. Share the bounty!

Fatima Khadijah donated the dry goods pantry. Reagan Durocher planned and organized the building of the fresh pantry as part of his Eagle Scout project. And Christine Bohnet makes us look good by designing our signs! Thank you for helping make Abita Springs a wonderful place to live.
