WAITING BEHIND THE GLASS
Every Tuesday through Saturday, when the doors open at PAWS of Grays Harbor, our dogs perk up their ears. They listen to the footsteps echoing down the hallway. They press their noses against the kennel gates, hoping that this time, the footsteps will stop for them.
But then the clock strikes 3:00 PM, the doors are locked, and the shelter goes quiet for the night. Another day has passed, and they are still here.
Living in a kennel is hard. No matter how much love our staff and volunteers give them, a shelter is still loud and lonely. Their spirits break just a little bit more with every person who walks by without stopping. They don’t want to spend another night on a cot behind the glass. They want a family to protect, a yard to run in, and a couch to sleep on.
We are a no-kill shelter, which means they are safe with us—but safety isn't the same as having a home. Because we don't euthanize for space, our kennels stay full, and we have a long waitlist of other local dogs desperately trying to get in.
Every dog adopted from our Aberdeen shelter literally saves two lives: the dog going home, and the dog on the waitlist who takes their place. Help get these four-leggeds home. You can get adoption information at www.pawsgh.org.
