Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO) conducted a two-day capacity-building training for members of the Ruweyda Women’s Network on 25–26 October 2026 at Geed-Deeble Botanical Garden in Darasalaam District, Somaliland.
The training focused on leadership, teamwork, organizational governance, decision-making, problem-solving, and collective action, equipping participants with practical knowledge to strengthen their network, enhance organizational capacity, promote inclusive leadership, and contribute meaningfully to community development.
The training also highlighted the importance of environmental protection, natural resource conservation, and women’s participation in promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible communities.

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO), in collaboration with Boqol Jire Medical Centre and with funding from Kindernothilfe (KNH), has successfully delivered essential medical and health services to children with special needs at the Hargeisa Center for Special Needs in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

The initiative aimed to improve access to essential healthcare services and support the health, nutrition and overall well-being of children with special needs.

The services provided included Medical Screening and Check-ups, Nutrition Screening, Medical Prescriptions, following appropriate professional assessment and Referral Support for Further Medical Care, where necessary

Access to healthcare is fundamental to every child’s right to health, dignity, and well-being. Through this initiative, BVO continues to promote inclusive, child-friendly environments where children with special needs are valued, supported, and can access appropriate care and support according to their individual needs.

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO), host of Geed-Deeble Botanical Garden, conducted a plant biodiversity assessment to document the diversity, distribution, abundance, regeneration, and conservation status of indigenous plant species.

The assessment documented trees, shrubs, grasses, and other plant species, while identifying key threats such as overgrazing, cutting, habitat disturbance, and the expansion of Prosopis juliflora.

The assessment also incorporated local ecological knowledge from elders and community members on historical vegetation, traditional plant uses, and conservation practices.

These findings provide an important baseline for indigenous plant conservation, ecological restoration, biodiversity monitoring, and sustainable management of Geed-Deeble Botanical Garden.

We are excited to share the successful launch and testing of our new sprinkler irrigation system at Geed-deeble Botanical Garden.

The system provides efficient and even watering, supports healthy plant growth, protects young seedlings, and helps reduce heat stress. This is an important step toward sustainable irrigation, plant conservation, and a greener Geed-deeble.

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO), in collaboration with Plan International, conducted a two-day staff capacity-building training on Integrated GBV Prevention and Response. The training was conducted as part of our ongoing commitment to staff capacity building, safeguarding, and strengthening the quality of our humanitarian and development programming.

This training brought together the staff of Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization for an interactive learning session focused on strengthening knowledge, practical skills, and coordinated approaches to preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Throughout the training, participants strengthened their understanding of Safeguarding, Case Management, Referral Pathways, and Staff Wellbeing. The focus was on promoting safe, respectful, and accountable working environments; strengthening structured, confidential, and survivor-centered approaches; improving the coordination and understanding of referral mechanisms for timely and appropriate assistance; and promoting staff resilience, self-care, and a supportive working environment.

This capacitated and equipped BVO staff with practical knowledge, skills, and approaches to strengthen their roles in safeguarding, GBV prevention and response, case management, referral coordination, and staff wellbeing.

BVO is committed to continuous staff development and to building a professional team equipped to uphold protection, dignity, accountability, and quality programming.

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO), in collaboration with KNH, held a dialogue meeting bringing together parents of children with special needs and decision-makers to discuss challenges, promote inclusion, and strengthen collective efforts to ensure that every child is heard, valued, and supported.

The dialogue provided a meaningful platform to amplify the voices of parents and children who are often unheard, strengthen engagement between families and decision-makers, and advocate for a more accessible, inclusive, and child-friendly environment.
