The Voice of Somaliland Minority Women Organization (VOSOMWO), representing culturally disadvantaged communities, in collaboration with the international organization UNTMIS, jointly organized a two-day training workshop on the rights of minorities and people with special needs.
The training brought together participants from marginalized and vulnerable communities, including minority women, persons with disabilities, and community leaders. The sessions focused on human rights principles, national and international legal frameworks, inclusion, protection mechanisms, and advocacy strategies for minorities and persons with special needs.
Throughout the two days, participants engaged in interactive discussions, group work, and case studies to analyze the social, economic, political, and cultural challenges faced by marginalized communities. Particular attention was given to discrimination, exclusion from decision-making, limited access to services, and barriers to justice.
At the conclusion of the training, participants collectively developed practical and community-driven solutions aimed at addressing these challenges. These included strengthening community awareness, promoting inclusive policies, improving access to services, enhancing collaboration with duty bearers, and empowering marginalized groupsโ€”especially women and persons with disabilitiesโ€”to advocate for their rights.
The training successfully increased participantsโ€™ understanding of minority rights and disability inclusion, while reinforcing the importance of collective action, partnership, and accountability. VOSOMWO and UNTMIS reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting initiatives that promote human rights, equality, dignity, and social inclusion for all.
