💗 Organ Donation Week 2026 💗

Organ donation starts with a conversation.

This week is an important reminder to talk openly with our loved ones about organ donation, to understand each other’s wishes and to make sure our families know the decisions we have made. 🫀🫁

Through British Sikh Nurses ☬, we have spent many years working within Sikh and wider South Asian communities to make these conversations easier, working with families, gurdwaras, faith and community leaders and NHS partners to challenge myths, build trust and raise awareness of both deceased and living organ donation. Our work has included NHS Blood and Transplant-funded community initiatives specifically focused on living donation.

Some of the most powerful moments have come from the families we have supported in their search for living donors. The Hope4Anaya campaign showed what can happen when a community comes together through compassion, awareness and Seva, selfless service. Anaya's story helped bring living kidney donation into conversations in homes, gurdwaras and across social media, and she successfully received a transplant in 2019. 💗

These living-donation stories are about more than transplantation. They are stories of courage, families, generosity and one person giving another the opportunity of life.

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a fluent Punjabi-speaking Community Maternity Support Worker to provide compassionate antenatal and postnatal care to women, babies and families in their homes and other community settings. Starting at NHS Band 2, the postholder can progress to Band 3 after completing the NHS Care Certificate within six months. Working under the direction of a registered midwife, the role includes direct care, parenting education, improving access to information and translation support, and administrative duties. A driving licence and access to a car are essential, weekend working may be required, and sponsorship is unavailable for this Band 2 position.

An inspiring evening at the launch of the new interactive blood donor gaming app at the We Are Donors Game Changing Gala at Oxford University. It was truly meaningful to witness such an innovative approach to engaging younger generations in blood donation through technology, education, and social impact.
