Wales has reaffirmed its commitment to ending HIV by 2030 🚨

Daniel Fluskey, Director of Policy, said:

"We welcome the news that the new Welsh Programme for Government sets out a commitment to ending HIV by 2030.

Our joint manifesto with Fast Track Cymru and Terrence Higgins Trust calls for the action needed to reach this goal, including a new programme to re-engage people not in HIV care, and awareness campaigns to normalise testing and challenge HIV stigma.

Wales has a real opportunity to end new HIV cases by 2030. We look forward to working with the Welsh Government and our partners across the sector to turn this into reality."

📢Fantastic news: Scotland will be developing a new HIV Action Plan

Robbie Currie, Chief Executive, said:

"We warmly welcome the Scottish Government’s commitment to develop a new standalone HIV Action Plan, reflecting the longstanding calls from National AIDS Trust and our partners.

Scotland has shown strong leadership for their HIV response, and today’s announcement is an important signal that the Government remains committed to reaching the target of ending HIV transmissions by 2030 and supporting people to live well with HIV.

The development of a new standalone plan provides a vital opportunity to maintain needed strategic focus, take stock of progress, address the challenges that remain, and set out the actions needed for the final stretch to 2030.

With one Parliament left until 2030, the renewed Action Plan must be ambitious, adequately resourced and focused on tackling health inequalities. As highlighted in our election manifesto with Waverley Care and Terrence Higgins Trust we know what needs to happen to accelerate progress.

The new Plan should further roll-out opt-out HIV and BBV testing, deliver a national Online HIV Prevention service, develop a national programme to re-engage people who are lost to HIV care, ensure equitable access to peer and mental health support, and fund campaigns to tackle HIV stigma.

We look forward to working closely with the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland, communities and partners across the HIV sector to develop the next Plan and drive action to make Scotland the first country in the world to end new HIV transmissions.”

How important are connection and social support when living with HIV?

BrookCharity's Sexual Health Week is back with the theme of 'Let's Connect', championing connection across platonic, romantic, and sexual relationships.

To support this, we're highlighting the work of our incredible young people advisory group, who've shared their experiences living with HIV and managing relationships, healthcare, and more.

An incredible event in Parliament today marked the launch of Beyond the Action Plan: our call to action for every government department to tackle HIV.

Hosted by the Co-Chair of the APPG on HIV and AIDS, Baroness Barker, we heard from:

ㆍProfessor Kevin Fenton
ㆍKevin McKenna MP
ㆍDarren Knight, CEO of George House Trust
ㆍPank Sethi
ㆍOluwakemi Agunbiade, our Senior Research and Policy Officer

The message today was clear: HIV can not be treated as just a health issue. Without action across housing, welfare, immigration and more, England risks missing its 2030 HIV target.

We need to go beyond the action plan - and it's time for every Government department to play its part.

📢 Our response to news that Grindr has paid £26m to settle a UK lawsuit over allegedly sharing users’ HIV status.

Daniel Fluskey, Director of Policy, said:

"No one's HIV status should be shared unlawfully with others.

Everyone has the right to expect that apps and platforms will keep their personal information, including their HIV status, safe and confidential, so we're pleased to see the importance of the security of individuals’ HIV data recognised in this news.

Through our discrimination support service, we hear what an incredibly distressing experience it can be for people to have their HIV status shared with others without their consent, impacting their wellbeing, mental health, confidence, and can lead to discrimination."

Incredible news: a life-saving HIV treatment is now available on the NHS

Lenacapavir been commissioned by the NHS following a campaign from National AIDS Trust and our partners and friends across the sector. Our partners BHIVA - British HIV Association, UK-CAB, and ACT UP London, as well as individual clinicians, were instrumental in this campaign.

Daniel Fluskey, Director of Policy said: "This is a huge decision for people who need life-saving treatment and takes us a step closer to ensuring that no one dies from AIDS-related illnesses here in the UK. Over years too many people have lost loved ones, family, and friends because of a lack of access to medicine and the harm caused by stigma, prejudice, and discrimination - so when a new life-saving treatment is available it must get to the people who need it."

"We’ve come so far with HIV treatment that people can now expect to live long and healthy lives with HIV, and alongside improvements in HIV prevention we have all the tools needed to achieve the UK Government’s goal of ending new HIV transmissions and AIDS-related deaths by 2030 – as long as those tools can be easily accessed by everyone who needs them.”

Thank you to everyone who was part of this – you make the difference. Hundreds of you, our supporters, signed our petition calling for the NHS to make this happen. It’s a reminder that in the fight for HIV rights and treatment, progress comes when we work together and take a stand.

And now nearly one hundred people a year living with HIV who were resistant to traditional anti-retroviral therapy will now receive life-saving treatment.

🚨Just four years left to meet England's goal of ending new HIV cases by 2030.

Following speaking at the recent HIV Outcomes UK and APPG on HIV, AIDS and Sexual Health roundtable, Baroness Barker warns that HIV must not slip down the priority list.

The opportunities presented by the HIV Action Plan, 10-Year Health Plan and the Health Bill could:
• improve quality of life for people living with HIV
• accelerate progress towards ending new HIV transmissions by 2030
• tackle inequalities in accessing care

The tools to reach the 2030 goal already exist. But much needs to be done if we are to achieve this unprecedented goal and support people to live well with HIV.

Happy London Trans+ Pride!

With increasing hostility and transphobia across the past year, it has never been more vital to stand up for everyone's rights.

Alongside other HIV charities, we'll be marching at London Trans+ Pride today in solidarity with all trans, non-binary and gender non-confirming people.

Today and every day, we will stand up for the rights of trans people. Trans rights are human rights 🏳️‍⚧️
