Project Ruth

Project Ruth Since many of these children were already approaching their early teens, they had no chance whatsoever of enrolling in a regular school program.

History

It all started in 1992, when T Thomas challenged Oti about what the Providence community was doing for the Rroma children on the streets in the Ferentari district of Bucharest. What began as a Sunday morning program was extended to a day center and it soon evolved into a literacy class when it was realized that most of the children could neither read or write and had never been to school

before.. At that time, the education system simply didn't recognize that an illiteracy problem existed. Anybody who failed to make it to school at the right age (7 years old back then, subsequently changed to 6) or within the following 2 years had nowhere to go: no special projects, no adult literacy classes, and no educational recovery programs. After a few years the literacy class was registered as a primary school and soon Fundatia Providenta provided the institutional form which now is the Ruth School. And so, the Ruth School began... In addition to the educational opportunities offered by the Ruth School, there was more that attracted students to Project Ruth. Due to poverty, many children started to attend the school simply because of the hot meal offered by the foundation. Noticing all these things, The Ruth School organized the following services for their target group: an educational program based on the MECT curriculum, programs of education, a hot meal at the school and basic medical care as well as hygiene programs. Achievements

In 1994 the Ruth School was awarded accreditation by the Educational Department for grades 1-4. They later received the accreditation for grades 5-8 in 1999. In 2010, the Ruth School received it's final accreditation. Today, there are 175 students registered. 70% of the students who graduated from Ruth School continued their studies in Pre-university education program or in a school of arts and crafts in Bucharest. Most of these graduates got a passing grade on their final exams at the end of 8th grade. So far, the Ruth School has educated and taken care of more than 2000 students during the last 16 years from it’s foundation.

Summer Club at Project Ruth Welcomes Boulevard Baptist Church Volunteers

The Summer Club at Project Ruth was delighted to welcome our special guests from Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson (SC), the 30th team of volunteers sent by BBC to serve at Project Ruth.

The theme for the week was 'Changing the World with Loving Kindness'. The BBC volunteers shared the story of Moses with the children, highlighting the kindness shown to him by Pharaoh’s daughter. Without her compassion, Moses would have perished, and Israel’s story of deliverance would have taken a very different path.
The powerful reminder is that the impact of our actions can be a blessing to those we encounter.

In addition to the daily club meetings, our partners from Boulevard Baptist Church held a meeting with the parents, helped paint classrooms, and prepared a backpack for every student in anticipation of their return to school in September.

Thank you, BBC, for your faithful service and wonderful partnership. God bless you all!

What a beautiful week we had at Hope Camp 2026 with the precious kids from Ukraine!

From building Lego catapults and racing motorized cars in STEM, to exploring nature, getting creative at the craft station, and competing in fun sports the children were smiling from morning till night.

They earned points every day for a sweet candy shop, roasted s’mores by the campfire, and ended the week with a joyful concert and received certificates of participation.

Each day was indeed blessed as we started with morning devotion and closed with worship.

A big thank you to our wonderful partners who sponsored this camp.

God bless you all!
